(continued from interview ①) Director Jang Hang-jun expressed gratitude to acquaintances.
On the 23rd, at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, an interview was held with director Jang Hang-jun about the film 'The Man Who Lives with the King' (director Jang Hang-jun, distributed by SHOWBOX, produced by Onda Works and BAN Entertainment).
The film 'The Man Who Lives with the King' is set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, and tells the story of a village chief who volunteered for exile for the revival of the village and a young former king who was exiled from the throne.
Director Jang Hang-jun, who has delivered a variety of cinematic pleasures across genres from comedy to thriller to moving true stories with films such as 'Light the Lighter', 'Forgotten Night', 'Rebound' and 'The Killers', challenged himself with a historical drama and, for the first time in Korean cinema, brought the hidden story of Danjong to the screen.
When asked about his wife, writer Kim Eun-hee's reaction, Jang Hang-jun said, "She came to the preview. Kim Eun-hee, as she grows older, thinks, 'Could I have had such a good friend?' She is truly on my side. Sometimes I feel she is more on my side than my parents. She gave me good words while watching the film this time," expressing his gratitude.
Also, acclaimed historical drama director Lee Joon-ik praised the film. Regarding this, Director Jang said, "Director Lee Joon-ik is a senior I have liked for a long time. I have known him since my producing days. He is a senior I remain close to and like. He has made so many landmark works. He said, 'Wow, you are really great,' 'Hang-jun, this will work for you,' 'You may have had money and fame, but you didn't have this (a work). This time you will have it.'" he said, adding, "It felt good to receive praise from a master. I felt our effort was not in vain. Director Lee Joon-ik is not someone who speaks empty compliments. He is not that kind of person," and laughed.
Director Jang, known for requesting coffee trucks from nearby stars, said, "Many people sent coffee trucks this time as well," and when asked about the 'promotion request' to BTS's RM, who is known to be friendly with him, he said, "Namjoon is someone who speaks at the U.N. He is incomparable to others," drawing laughter.
He added, "Actually, I did contact to see if he could come to the preview. I don't actually have his contact. I'm not the type to reach out first. He came to the preview of my previous film 'Rebound', but I don't know about this time. I did send a message. Maybe he's in Europe," showing a subtle sense of expectation and drawing laughter.
