(continuing from interview ①) Actress Go Youn-jung mentioned an idol she referred to for playing Cha Mu-hee.
On the 23rd at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, an interview was held with Go Youn-jung, the lead actress of the Netflix series "Is this love interpretable?" (hereafter "Is It Translatable?").
"Is this love interpretable?" (written by Hong Jung-eun·Hong Mi-ran, directed by Yoo Young-eun) is a work that depicts an unpredictable romance that unfolds when multi-language interpreter Joo Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho) takes on interpreting for global top star Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung).
Go Youn-jung played Cha Mu-hee, a global top star loved by people around the world, and delicately portrayed the character's complex emotional line hidden beneath a glamorous exterior, showing renewed appeal even in the romantic comedy genre. She expressed the process of recognizing her own feelings with detailed expressiveness and displayed a diverse charm ranging from loveliness to seriousness.
That day Go Youn-jung, speaking about the empathy she felt in playing top star Cha Mu-hee as an actor, opened by saying, "I think anxiety always coexists with happiness. The higher the satisfaction, the more you want a situation or state to last. Honestly, I didn't know that until early in my debut. My perspective was narrow and my tension level was high."
She said, "But as my perspective widened, feeling that there are so many people around me and that so much strength is needed, I started thinking about how after a project is filmed and released I might be unable to keep to a schedule because of health issues, or that I might make a slip of the tongue. I began thinking that even if it's only my mistake, it could affect the work. I've thought about that for three to four years. I felt it strongly this time as well. Rather than 'I finished filming so it's not mine' like Mu-hee might feel, I realize 'I have to do well so everyone's happiness can last longer.' The burden has come as 'I have to do well,'" she confessed.
Unlike the confident attitude of Cha Mu-hee, in reality Jo Yoon-jung once drew attention for showing extreme nervousness on the red carpet. Regarding whether her attitude changed like Cha Mu-hee's after filming, she laughed and said, "Our drama finished filming in February last year. But I stood at an awards ceremony after filming, and there was no effect. None at all. I thought it was not a common case. That I would be this nervous."
She continued, "So I looked for videos of senior actors who are flexible at acting the attitude the public recognizes in actors. There was a short scene at the airport where they greet fans and receive hospitality. I also looked up videos of Blackpink members. IVE members as well. I looked up many idols," then added, "Actually when filming you don't hold a scene for long. They also cheer and then when it's cut they straighten their faces. Then you don't feel nervous. It's a completely different world there," drawing laughter.
