BTS member V and Jungkook's honor was defamed, and the operator of the YouTube channel "탈덕수용소" who was brought to trial was ordered on appeal to pay 10 million won more in compensation than the original ruling.
On the 23rd, the Civil Appeals Division 2-1 of the Seoul Western District Court (Director General Lee Jun-cheol) opened the appeal hearing in the damages suit filed by BTS's agency BigHit Music and V and Jungkook against the operator A of the YouTube channel "탈덕수용소".
The court overturned the first trial's ruling on V and Jungkook's losses and ruled that the defendant must pay each of them an additional 5 million won. The court also ordered A to bear half of the appeal costs related to V and two-thirds of the appeal costs related to Jungkook.
Earlier, the first trial court last year ruled in part for the plaintiffs, ordering A to compensate V 10 million won, Jungkook 15 million won, and BigHit Music 51 million won.
Accordingly, if the appeal ruling is finalized, A will be liable for 86 million won in damages.
A, who operated the YouTube channel "탈덕수용소," produced and posted videos using malicious rumors about idols and other celebrities, causing controversy. While also pursuing lawsuits with IVE's Jang Wonyoung and Kang Daniel, V and Jungkook filed a damages claim against the operator A of "탈덕수용소" together with their agency in 2024 for about 90 million won.
