On the 22nd broadcast of KBS 2TV entertainment program Problem Child in House, chef Jung Ho-young revealed behind-the-scenes about his grants on Culinary Class Wars.
That day Jung Ho-young said he regretted refusing to appear on Culinary Class Wars season 1 and said, "I didn't watch it for a month because my stomach hurt, but when it did so well I watched it. It did well, but at each scene I could see what choices I would have made as a chef back then. I became greedy to try it once," he said.
Song Eun I asked, "You must have waited to be courted for season 2." Jung Ho-young recalled the season 2 casting, saying, "I waited a lot. Because I made the choice back then. Now if I don't even have the opportunity to choose (what will I do)"
He continued, "I heard that people around me had meetings one by one. Because I didn't get contacted and I'm close with the producer, I pretended to check in and contacted them first. That's how I appeared," he confessed.
Culinary Class Wars season 2 boasted a dazzling white spoon lineup comparable to season 1. When asked who the unexpected white spoon was, Jung Ho-young replied, "You can't talk about who appears. Among my close acquaintances, chef Raymon Kim consulted on the entire season 1. I thought he wouldn't appear, but he did," he answered.
He especially revealed about Choi Kang-rok, who re-challenged, "He was completely hidden. He said he was going to write a book and not appear on broadcasts, so we hadn't been in contact for quite a while, but he suddenly showed up and was like, 'It's me, I'm re-challenging,'" prompting laughter.
Kwon Seong-jun mentioned chef Hou Deok-juk as the most surprising white spoon. He said, "He has been in the industry for a long time and is like a godfather in the Chinese cuisine world, so I was very surprised," he said.
Jung Ho-young mentioned Chinese cuisine witch and Seoul mom among the black spoon contestants. He said, "Chinese cuisine witch is very good. I also said she is senior chef Jeong Ji-seon. I thought she would be strong," he said.
Especially about Seoul mom, who faced him directly, Jung Ho-young recalled the showdown, saying, "It really made my blood dry. The judging went on for almost an hour. We went one-on-one," he recalled.
Yang Se-chan asked, "How much did you practice cooking anglerfish?" and Jung Ho-young answered, "The anglerfish itself is slippery so it's hard to clean neatly, so I let it hang and worked on it," he replied.
However, Jung Ho-young was eliminated after two votes. When asked how he felt about being eliminated in the first round, Jung Ho-young said bitterly, "My first goal was to get through the first round, so when I fell there..."
Above all, he lamented, "I even made a stand for the anglerfish and took it home afterward. Should I break this? The stand cost 1,000,000 won to make. The foreman carpenter's labor took three days, but I was eliminated," he complained, eliciting laughter.
Kim Jong Kook asked bluntly, "Are there cases where you can't accept the result?" But Jung Ho-young answered, "In the end, the anglerfish flesh was a bit dry. I was slightly bothered by that part too. There is waiting time (until judging). That was a concern, and they pointed that out accurately, so I did my best but accepted it," he replied.
