'Actor and model Lee Soo-hyuk spoke directly about his model debut story, his long friendship with G-Dragon, and the recent "GD lookalike·gesture controversy."
On the 22nd, a video titled "Lee Soo-hyuk and Hong Jin Kyung's model force dominating Cheongdam-dong" was released on the YouTube channel "Study King Real Genius." In the video, Lee Soo-hyuk said, "For the time being I think I'll continue to focus on drama filming" as he shared his recent status.
When asked about his reason for debuting as a model, he said, "I originally intended to join an actor agency, but an idol offer came and I ended up not joining the agency as planned," and "I started modeling because I like clothes." He continued, "I debuted at 17, and for the following five years I was without an agency. At that time I called companies myself to get work," and candidly added, "I asked hyung Kim Young-kwang how much he was paid and tried to ask for a bit more from there."
About his connection with G-Dragon, he laughed, "We were friends before debut. We used to fight all the time." He recalled, "We bickered like, 'Why are you an idol,' 'What movie are you in,' but I didn't expect we'd end up like this." He added, "We became famous throughout high school after debuting at 17, and Jiyong was the same."
That day Hong Jin Kyung mentioned the viral "GD meme," saying, "They say friends resemble each other. There are many clips saying his walking style on stage and gestures are similar to GD's." In response, Lee Soo-hyuk explained, "There are many photos and things taken at fan meetings, so I had to prepare all of that," and "Those clips show me relaxed during break time when my tension is released."
He also said, "I watched all the related videos. I originally wouldn't care, but after seeing fans' emails my thoughts changed," and stressed, "I felt I should care that people who cherish and support me are saddened. Measures will definitely be taken regarding maliciously edited videos." He then provoked laughter by saying, "My mother called and told me, 'Walk properly, don't spit out gum, don't blink.'"
When asked if his closest friend is G-Dragon, he said, "We have known each other a long time. Sometimes when one explodes in fame we suddenly contact each other, and other times we don't contact each other for a while," and explained, "We met when we both had dreams before debut." He said, "At first we fought and then at some point I accepted it. I thought, 'Ah, my friend has become a superstar,'" and added, "Since then I have been more careful. I stay back during his important moments and try not to be photographed together. I want to protect my friend's time."
When Hong Jin Kyung said, "It's so nice to see a musician and an actor who dominated an era. Both must be proud," Lee Soo-hyuk laughed, "I can't say things like that because it's cheesy. I just tease him," and calmly said, "It's hard for friendships to last 20 years. I just accepted it. What can you do when he's a star?"
