tvN real gangsta sitcom 'Chagane' continued a tense competition as the spicy sauce development war between Cha Seung-won and Choo Sung Hoon escalated.
On the March 22 broadcast (Thursday) of tvN 'Chagane' (directed by Yang Jung-woo, Lee Jeong, Lee Ji-sook, Jeon Hye-rim) episode 3, the story of the Chagane organization heading to Bangkok, Thailand to develop a new spicy sauce unfolded. As the one-on-one battles between Cha Seung-won and Choo Sung Hoon over spicy sauce development continued, the preview of a street vendor tasting event for Bangkok citizens raised viewers' interest.
Cha Seung-won, who dreamed of combining Thai heat with Korean cuisine, began full-scale spicy sauce development with Tomi based on inspiration from a local Korean restaurant. As time passed, the intense heat of the Thai peppers rose, and by adding Korean doenjang and gochujang and fish sauce, he completed the so-called "honmi doenjang" sauce. Cha Seung-won showed anxiety, saying "I can't eat this?" yet did not stop his rampage, and overwhelmed the set by finishing a red doenjang stew containing a total of 19 peppers, including dried chiles.
Choo Sung Hoon's direction was completely different. He began developing a dipping sauce called "Chubasco" targeting the Millennials and Gen Z with collaborator chef Lee Sang-geun. The core concept of Choo Sung Hoon's sauce was to exquisitely combine fruit-based sweetness and spiciness. Unlike Cha Seung-won's analog method, Choo Sung Hoon used the latest equipment in full to research and develop, drawing laughter. After various twists and N rounds of tastings, he completed 'Chubasco Ver.2' by fully blending mango, pineapple and Thai bird's eye chiles, and Choo Sung Hoon added to the laughter by bursting into a dialect in satisfaction at the result.
The mind games between the two who met again holding their own sauces added to the excitement. Cha Seung-won, feeling quietly anxious at how surprisingly high-quality Choo Sung Hoon's sauce was, suggested an impromptu small tasting, and Choo Sung Hoon also showed competitive spirit, saying "let's try it once." When Choo Sung Hoon confidently presented the Chubasco sauce with fried chicken skin, Cha Seung-won, in a panic, performed CPR on his spicy doenjang stew and added his homemade kimchi, eliciting laughter. In particular, Chubasco received a stream of praise, while Cha Seung-won's doenjang stew drew ambiguous reactions different from expectations, heightening the tension.
The tension at the tasting event was broken by the arrival of the new youngest members. Rookie organization members DinDin and Dannygu, whose existence even the older brothers did not know, officially joined. Cha Seung-won and Choo Sung Hoon were momentarily taken aback by the unexpected situation, but slowly opened their hearts to the efforts of the youngest members to win them over. The subsequent newcomer welcome party further warmed the atmosphere. The suddenly started one-point uppercut lesson by Choo Sung Hoon and Cha Seung-won's 'Charmagi' transformation performance devastated the site and added to the laughter. When Dannygu showed off violin skills that enchanted the world, Cha Seung-won lavishly praised him, saying "there's something that makes the heart beat."
At the end of the Thailand trip, a street vendor tasting event for Bangkok citizens was planned. Action leader Choo Sung Hoon, who only knows to go straight ahead, visited chef Lee Sang-geun's restaurant with maximalist chief of staff DinDin to begin large-scale sauce production. There were various variables and crises during mass production, but Choo Sung Hoon increased the peppers by 25% compared with before and achieved a perfect taste. DinDin, who tasted the sauce, created laughter by exclaiming, "You could sell this," and fussing, "If he did it alone, bypassing tvN, it'd be a huge hit."
Choo Sung Hoon's sauce was a big hit even within the Chagane organization. In particular, Cha Seung-won slyly put a stake into the sauce, calling it "a taste that opens the eyes" and "exactly the taste young people like these days," and the younger members also began to reveal ambitions for equity, adding tension and interest.
While the younger members were busy preparing for the street vendor tasting, Cha Seung-won played a trump card to change the game. Famous as a master of spicy pork stir-fry, he raised expectations by completing a thick Thai-style spicy pork sauce through ungauged mixing, hand flavor and adding a uniquely Thai spicy kick. Questions grow about whether Chagane can conquer Thailand with spice and who will be the one to capture Bangkok citizens' palates on the next leg of the journey.
