BTS's new album preorders surpassed 4 million copies in a week.
According to album distributor YG Plus, BTS's fifth full-length album "ARIRANG" had 4.06 million preorders as of the 22nd. It was achieved one week after preorders began on the 16th.
This surpasses the team's cumulative best-selling album, the fourth full-length album "MAP OF THE SOUL : 7". That album recorded 3.42 million preorders in one week during its 2020 preorder period and later exceeded 5 million copies (according to Circle Chart). The new release is raising preorder numbers at an even faster pace. In particular, because "ARIRANG" is about two months away from release, attention is focused on the record it will set by the end of the preorder period.
Interest in BTS's comeback is reflected in various indicators. After the announcement of the new album release and world tour on global superfans platform Weverse, membership sign-ups surged about threefold. On global audio and music streaming platform Spotify, pre-saves for the new album exceeded 1 million within two days of the start of pre-save and surpassed 2 million on day four. It remains to be seen whether it will surpass Taylor Swift's record pre-saves (about 6 million) set with her 12th full-length album "The Life of a Showgirl".
Meanwhile, "ARIRANG" is a new album that BTS is releasing as a complete group for the first time in about 3 years and 9 months, and it will be released at 1 p.m. on March 20. It is expected to resonate with global music fans by dealing with universal emotions such as the team's identity, longing, and deep love.
