Singer Choi Su-ho mentioned his dream of enlisting in the Marine Corps.
On the afternoon of the 21st, Choi Su-ho held an interview at a cafe in Yongsan District, Seoul, to commemorate the release of his mini 2nd album "BIG IMPACT."
This mini 2nd album contains a total of five tracks showcasing various charms, including the title track "Big One Is Coming." The title track "Big One Is Coming" blends an intense lead sound and strong lyrics with Choi Su-ho's powerful vocals and EDM sound, and is expected to make an impact on listeners.
Announcing his comeback after one year, Choi Su-ho said, "In the trot world, a comeback after one year is said to be uncommon. I selfishly want to show more of myself and my songs."
About the title track "Big One Is Coming," he said, "They say a singer follows the song title, and the title was striking. It's a word I use often, and since it's EDM, I think it's a genre worth earnestly challenging."
When asked if there was anything he focused on expressing in this album, Choi Su-ho said, "Having competed twice, the thought of wanting to show a slightly different side or charm was deeply rooted. There was time to consider what different and new charms I could show. As a result, I think we made a fun EDM song that suits summer well."
Why did a song that suits summer well come back in winter? He said, "After discussing it within the company, there wasn't any particular reason. It was the timing when we finished preparing, filmed the music video, and released it as quickly as possible. It wasn't released for a specific reason," adding, "I believe the weather will warm up soon. The colder it is, the more you have to move your body, so I think it will be fine in winter and also fine in summer."
On why he chose EDM as the genre for the title track, he added, "After talking with senior artists and asking for advice, they said since there are events and performances, it would be good to have at least one really exciting song as my song. Reflecting that advice, I think we chose EDM."
What does "big thing" mean to Choi Su-ho? He expressed his wish, "Fame — for me, if it's a big thing, I hope it brings recognition." Regarding his mindset while preparing this album, he said, "This album's title track is lively and EDM, so I wanted to raise the tension a bit more and show a lot of my energetic side."
When asked if his usual tension is low, he added, "I'm somewhat shy. In more comfortable or close settings I show a different side. My MBTI is E, but because I'm a bit reserved I think I haven't been able to show an energetic side on broadcasts."
When asked if he wanted to learn songwriting and composing to include songs on his album, Choi Su-ho confessed, "I'm working hard on songwriting now, just diving in headfirst. If I learn, I worry something too limited or clichéd might come out. I'm reading poetry alone, looking at other music lyrics, listening while appreciating melodies, and colliding with ideas. I have a goal to include at least one song (later)."
Now 25 years old, Choi Su-ho spoke about his new resolutions: "I still feel like I haven't long graduated from high school. I can't believe I'm already 25. Having competed twice and done two nationwide tours, I feel like I've really worked hard. I think 25 is precious, so I want to take care of my health while promoting. Last year I was very sick, so I want to be physically healthy while active."
On his goals as a singer, he showed determination, saying, "I want to become someone with really high recognition, hold a great concert, and my dream is to hold a concert at the Gymnastics Arena."
Before the interview began, while talking with associates, discussions related to the military were mentioned. He said, "Having competed twice, I hardly had any solo activities. I haven't had a solo concert, and I haven't been able to try the activities I want, so it might be better to do some solo activities and then organize things and go. There isn't a fixed schedule yet."
However, Choi Su-ho said, "I want to join the Marine Corps. In any case it's the duty of national defense, and since it's about going to protect the country, I want to go to the strongest military," adding, "I want to show that I go and come back decisively, and that I'm not a flaky person."
If he actually enlists in the Marine Corps, he would become the successor to Jeong Dong-won, who is about to enlist in the Marine Corps. He laughed, "Even when I call Dong-won, he says 'Pilseung' even though he hasn't gone yet."
