'I'm SOLO' (I'm SOLO) warmly concluded its 'older-younger special' with the happy ending of married couple Young-chul and Jeong-sook.
On Wednesday the 21st, SBS Plus and ENA's real dating program 'I'm SOLO' paired Young-su–Ok-sun and Young-chul–Jeong-sook as the 'final couples', drawing viewers' support. In particular, the identity of the 29th season's married couple was revealed as Young-chul and Jeong-sook; the two had already filed their marriage registration and announced the happy news that they will hold their wedding in April, heating up living rooms nationwide.
On the night of day five at 'Solonara 29', Young-sook had final dates with Young-ho and Young-sik. They sat in the dormitory yard, eating grilled prawns while talking; at that time Young-ho carefully peeled a shrimp and handed it to Young-sook. Meanwhile Young-sik said, "It would look nice if Young-ho peeled the shrimp for her," and focused on the shrimp mukbang, drawing a wry smile from Young-sook. Nearby, Young-chul, who sat opposite Jeong-sook, kept smiling and created a warm atmosphere. When Jeong-sook said her father had a '10 p.m. curfew' until four years ago, he exclaimed, "A curfew is luxury!" with heart-eyes. After a date where they clicked perfectly, Jeong-sook told production, "I feel comfortable with Young-chul," but admitted, "I'm worried that if he's too conservative, I might feel suffocated." Young-chul confessed that because of this date his feelings had completely shifted to "Jeong-sook 100: Young-sook 0," saying he felt like Jeong-sook embraced his messy self.
On her date with Young-su, Ok-sun expressed grievances she had held back, and Young-su promised, "If we date, I can make you happy. If it's Ok-sun, I'll do it no matter what!" He continued peeling shrimp and appealed, "This isn't my usual tendency, but isn't this what love is?" Having lost Ok-sun, Kwang-su vented to his date Sun-ja about Young-su and showed lingering resentment. He said, "Even during the '2:1 date' Young-su didn't actively offer to pay," revealing he had paid, and added, "I think Ok-sun has poor judgment of people," showing persistent bitterness. Sang-chul, who had been torn between Young-ja and Ok-sun and chose a 'super date' with Ok-sun, appeared very dejected in front of Young-ja. Sang-chul gave his final farewell, "I don't think I'll be able to forget the wonderful Young-ja," and Young-ja coolly replied, "You might meet a woman prettier than me, but you won't meet a woman more remarkable than me," ending the relationship.
After finishing all final dates, the 29th cast reconvened in the common living room. At that time Young-chul appeared wearing a luxury T-shirt, and Young-ja and Hyun-sook criticized Young-chul's 'luxury double standard' attitude, saying, "Would someone who wears luxury clothes dislike a woman who carries a 'C-brand bag'?" Jeong-sook also listened to Young-chul's reactions and revealed to production, "Actually, I'm human too, so someday I might want to buy a luxury bag; will I have to watch what Young-chul thinks then?" showing she was still troubled.
As the night deepened, Young-su asked Ok-sun for a '1:1 talk.' He appealed sincerely, "If you come 10 steps out of 100, I'll go the other 90 steps." Young-chul hinted to Jeong-sook, "I'll choose you as my final choice tomorrow." Young-ho tried to persuade her, "Can't we meet for about a month and then decide?" but Young-sook shook her head. Afterwards Young-sook asked Young-chul, "I'm curious why your feelings changed," and he replied, "I felt like Jeong-sook understands me." Young-sook mentioned Young-chul's event where he waited for her until 5 a.m. the previous night in rain like snow, and said, "I thought you liked me a lot, but it was all a misunderstanding," expressing her distress.
Meanwhile Young-sik woke at 5 a.m., cleaned the common living room, and even cooked kimchi-jjigae. Right after, Young-sik set a table next to the room of Jeong-sook, Young-sook and Hyun-sook, but when no one got up after two hours he opened the dorm door and pushed the kimchi-jjigae and rice inside. Young-sook said, "No one will eat that, right?" and Young-sik left, looking upset. Young-sook immediately transformed into 'Oh Eun-youngsook' to check on Young-sik's feelings; Young-sik said through tears, "During the date with Hyun-sook she said she liked tofu, so I made kimchi-jjigae with tofu today. Also, I cooked for six days trying to feed Hyun-sook but she never came, so I felt hurt," and cried. Young-sook comforted him, "How lonely it must have been for you to come here alone at a young age? I know. You tried the hardest." Overwhelmed, Young-sik suddenly stood up, went into the men's dorm bathroom, and cried alone for a long time.
Dressed in a sharp suit, Young-chul called Jeong-sook to a bench and gifted her a 'poem' in which he had transcribed Hwang Jin-i's 'sangsamong.' Jeong-sook was grateful but tentatively asked, "If we do well, would you want me to give up the business I'm running?" Young-chul moved her by saying, "I want to break all the values I had. Whether it's luxury bags or anything else, my standards are gone now." Young-su also did a flower gift event for Ok-sun and presented high-end coffee and an espresso cup he had prepared in advance. Young-su said, "Honestly, it's the first time I've put in this much effort before dating," making Ok-sun smile brightly.
Finally, the final selections at 'Solonara 29' began. First, Young-su, holding a sketchbook like on the first day, confessed to Ok-sun, "My heart always stays with you." Choked up, Ok-sun made her final choice and became the 29th season's first couple. Following that, Young-ho, Kwang-su, Young-sik, Sang-chul, Young-sook, Young-ja, Sun-ja and Hyun-sook all gave up their final choices, and Young-chul said he had "someone he wants to shield from every arrow in life" as he moved straight toward Jeong-sook. After much thought, Jeong-sook chose Young-chul, making them the second final couple. Young-chul told production, "I met a precious person and want to protect them with my life," and promised, "I'll do well~." Young-su vowed, "I'll try so Ok-sun can smile and cry with happiness." Ok-sun smiled happily, saying, "There may be many pretty women in their 20s, but there won't be anyone who, like me, has intelligence, beauty and wisdom."
When the 29th season's journey ended, production released wedding photos featuring Young-chul and Jeong-sook. From 'final couple' to 'real couple' and then to marriage, the 3MCs Defconn, Lee Yi-kyung and Song Hae applauded the couple's love story. Having successfully completed the 29th 'older-younger special', 'I'm SOLO' returns for its 30th season as the 'gifted man, timid woman special.' The jointly produced variety show I'm SOLO on SBS Plus and ENA airs every Wednesday at 10:30 p.m.
