"Hwang Shin-hye's Let's Live Together" actress Hwang Shin-hye expressed a simple view on dating.
On the 21st episode of KBS1TV "Hwang Shin-hye's Let's Live Together," the first guest was idol-turned actress Han Guru. Han Guru said she would cook for the older women and bought the ingredients herself. She described her cooking skills as "just enough to make for kids. I just eyeball it and whip it up," she said.
Han Guru completed the basics of home cooking with seaweed soup, japchae, and stir-fried almonds with anchovies. Jang Yoon Jeong said, "It's so good. It's bland and really suits my taste," and Hwang Shin-hye also exclaimed, "It's really delicious."
Han Guru said she is also raising children as a single mother. Hwang Shin-hye asked, "How did the children take the divorce?" Han Guru said, "I explained it naturally and continuously. I was worried they might be anxious, so I told them that families with blood ties can't be separated. I told them, 'Mom and dad can't be separated from you because of blood, but mom and dad were strangers to each other, so they became friends again. There are many different kinds of families in the world, and you can all hang out with mom or dad, so you're happy,'" revealing her clear view of family.
Han Guru's mindset instilled independent thinking in her roughly 9-year-old children. Exhausted from parenting alone, she had the children brush their teeth, wash their faces, and dress themselves from around age 6. Han Guru said, "It wasn't because of some grand educational philosophy. I started because it was so hard having to look after two of them by myself. Now I think it was the right thing to do." Hwang Shin-hye asked, "You're good at parenting. Won't you have one more child?"
Jang Yoon Jeong said, "When I divorced, it was hard to tell the children, but it was harder to tell my parents. When did you tell your parents, Han Guru?" Hearing the question from her parents, Jung Ga-eun could not hold back rising tears. Han Guru said calmly, "I actually told them after everything was decided. I felt sorry about it."
Han Guru said, "I never wanted to fight with the children's father. I didn't want to fight during the divorce process. I also didn't see my biological father often. I grew up in a single-parent family. I resented not seeing my father. I vowed I wouldn't do that, and I promised not to fight during the divorce process. So I thought we'd end up fighting over money and things like that," she said, explaining her past and saying she decided not to hurt her children.
Han Guru said, "My mother already asked, 'Are you getting a divorce?'" and Hwang Shin-hye and others sympathized, saying, "Your parents already knew. They saw their daughter and already knew."
Hwang Shin-hye asked, "Has your view of men changed since the divorce?" Han Guru said, "I used to like men who made me worried, but now I only look for kind-heartedness." Then Han Guru asked, "Do you sisters think about dating?" Hwang Shin-hye said, "I'm not closed off to dating, but I'm very comfortable being single. And as you get older there's no one to meet. Han Guru can just try because she's young," she said. Hwang Shin-hye briskly replied to Han Guru's comment that she only dates if she likes someone, saying, "Not dating is the answer."
