'You Quiz' Park Shinhye recalled the days when she worried about being an actress.
On the 21st broadcast of the tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block (hereafter "You Quiz"), actress Park Shinhye appeared and recounted the story of how she debuted as an actress.
Park Shinhye said she passed Lee Seung-hwan's music video audition on the first try with a single childhood photo and boasted of her beauty. Thus, in 2001, when she was in the sixth grade of elementary school and first met Lee Seung-hwan, Park Shinhye began training as a singer. She recalled, "That year I filmed Lee Seung-hwan's 'Do You Love Me' and 'Flower' music videos."
Park Shinhye's family home was in Gwangju. Park Shinhye said that although her parents, who were financially struggling, opposed it, the whole family eventually gave up life in Gwangju and moved to Seoul, living in a semi-basement for the sake of their daughter's dream, and she said, "My father drove a taxi, my mother worked in insurance, school meal service and cleaning."
Regarding her parents who continued to work after her debut, Park Shinhye said, "Because of making a living, I thought I had to succeed quickly to make my parents comfortable. I had a strong thought that 'if I do this job I'll make a lot of money.' I jumped in with the thought that I had to show filial piety to my parents quickly," and she shared the anecdote about deciding to become an actress.
Starting as a trainee singer, Park Shinhye shifted toward acting on the recommendation of her acting teacher. For her first audition she watched Stairway to Heaven and was cast on the first try, and she began her acting career in earnest.
For a while, Park Shinhye confessed that around the time she was about to enter her second year of high school she also worried about the future. On that she said, "Since I started as a child actor, I didn't study in middle and high school, and I wondered, 'If I stop acting what will I do with my life?' I worried for three to four years. 'If I quit, how will my family make a living?' So I think I clung to it more," she revealed.
