The ninth episode of the general programming channel MBN talk show 'Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night,' which airs on the 24th at 9:40 p.m., features singer Yu Yeol, who for the first time reveals his battle with pulmonary fibrosis, a condition for which he even received a death pronouncement. At one point, videos circulated showing his gaunt appearance and a false death rumor spread. Yu Yeol recounts how he stopped activities for seven years because of pulmonary fibrosis, overcame the illness and got his health back, a story that left everyone solemn.
Yu Yeol was hospitalized in 2019 with pneumonia and a fever that rose to 104 degrees Fahrenheit after which he was diagnosed with pleural parenchymal elastic fibrosis (PPEE), an idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis of unknown cause. He said the disease has a high fatality rate and that there is no cure, only drugs that slow its progression, which surprised listeners. He added that the medication reduced his appetite and his weight fell to 40kg, and his family was even told by doctors, "Prepare yourselves emotionally. Discuss with your family whether to use life-prolonging treatment and let us know," a death pronouncement he revealed that shocked people.
Fortunately, Yu Yeol confirmed at another hospital that a lung transplant might be possible and, after a difficult effort to regain weight and strength, he challenged the transplant, but the transplant was canceled twice just before surgery, bringing ongoing hardship. During that time his condition worsened, and he entered a critical state with severe delirium, shocking everyone. Facing a life-or-death situation, he even left a will, and on 'Day and Night' he read that will, expressing gratitude to his wife and child, moving listeners deeply.
