'Radio Star' guest Gu Hye-sun shared an update that became a blessing in disguise after the 'attitude controversy.'
On the 21st broadcast, MBC entertainment program 'Radio Star' (hereafter 'Ras') presented a special titled '2026 Words of the Year: As you say!' featuring Lee Keum-hee, Yeom Kyung-hwan, Gu Hye-sun and Jeon Min-gi.
Gu Hye-sun, who recently graduated early from KAIST, said, "Compared with when I appeared last year, the leading digit of my weight changed by two places. The leading digit used to be '6' but it went down to '4'," sharing how noticeably different she looks now.
That day Kim Kook Jin asked Gu Hye-sun, who appeared after a year, "After your last 'Ras' appearance, did you learn the identity of our people?"
During her last appearance, Gu Hye-sun appeared wearing a hat because she could not wash her hair due to a boiler malfunction. Even after the production team asked her to take off the hat, she insisted she could not remove it, which ultimately led to an attitude controversy.
Kim Gu Ra said, "We recently had the 'Ras' 900th press conference, and reporters mentioned it there too," and Gu Hye-sun said, "At that time the producer also apologized so much on my behalf that I actually felt sorry."
Gu Hye-sun, who said she received messages from acquaintances over the hat issue, said, "They sent me consoling texts. Our people have long been a nation that outfits from head to toe with hats, socks and shoes. They wear gat. They sent many of those memes."
Kim Gu Ra asked, "So did you pay a lot of attention to your hair today?" and Gu Hye-sun replied, "Yes. I had it blow-dried and put flowers on it," adding, "Choo Shin-soo, who appeared with us last time, retired and came out, and it was a very happy day, but I was sorry that my hat became an issue."
However, Gu Hye-sun said the hat issue actually became a blessing in disguise, drawing attention. She said the controversy became a springboard for launching hair rollers. Gu Hye-sun said, "At the time I was showing it for my school graduation, and KAIST saw the commotion about me not washing my hair. This turned into a major blessing in disguise: KAIST shampoo and hair rollers were launched. I became the CEO of a venture company with that and received a patent award. I'm grateful," she said.
Meanwhile, Gu Hye-sun was admitted to KAIST graduate school in 2024 and was accepted into the science journalism graduate school's master of engineering program.
She completed the master's program in less than two years. Recently transformed into the CEO of a venture company, she directly conducted research and development, obtained patents, and developed the eco-friendly hair roller "Kurol," which was selected for an outstanding patent award and drew public attention.<
