Disney's live-action film "Snow White" suffered the dishonor of being the most nominated for the Golden Raspberry Awards, which selects the worst films.
On the 21st (local time), according to U.S. entertainment outlets including Variety, "Snow White" was nominated in six categories at the 46th Golden Raspberry Awards: worst picture · worst remake · worst supporting actor · worst chemistry · worst director · worst screenplay.
Rapper Ice Cube–starring "War of the Worlds" was also nominated in six categories including worst picture, tying the record.
"Snow White" is a live-action adaptation of the Disney animated film of the same name. However, Rachel Zegler, a Latina American actress with a Colombian mother, took the title role and provoked strong backlash as "destroying the original."
In addition, Rachel Zegler's social media accounts also caused controversy. She was embroiled in criticism for belittling the plot of "Snow White" as "a story about loving a stalker," and she left profanity about U.S. President Donald Trump.
In terms of box office, "Snow White" was also a flop. While production costs were reported at about $250 million, it earned only about $87 million in North America and $200 million worldwide. In Korea, it drew just 190,000 viewers.
Unlike the Academy Awards, the Golden Raspberry Awards is a ceremony that selects the worst films each year. It announces its nominees one day ahead of the Academy Awards.
