'You Quiz' Park Shinhye showed affection for her family and shed tears while thinking of her father.
On the 21st broadcast of tvN variety show You Quiz on the Block (hereinafter 'You Quiz'), actress Park Shinhye appeared and revealed the reason she debuted as an actress.
That day Park Shinhye said that in sixth grade she applied for a Lee Seung-hwan music video public audition at the suggestion of a church teacher.
Park Shinhye said, "I didn't like being in front of people. I was a quiet child," and added, "The church teacher was a fan of Lee Seung-hwan. She applied for the audition for me," and said, "I went through three rounds of auditions and met Lee Seung-hwan when I was in sixth grade," saying she began training as a singer in 2001.
And that year she filmed Lee Seung-hwan's music videos for "Do you love me" and "Flower." However, Park Shinhye was living in Gwangju. Her parents, who were financially struggling, opposed her acting career, but ultimately the whole family gave up life in Gwangju and moved to Seoul, starting life in a semi-basement for their daughter's dream.
Park Shinhye recalled, "My father drove a taxi, my mother worked in insurance, school meals and cleaning. They continued those jobs even after my debut," and said, "Because of our livelihood I thought I had to succeed quickly to make my parents comfortable. I had a big thought that 'if I do this job I'll make a lot of money.' I rushed in thinking I had to repay my parents quickly."
She started as a trainee singer, but Park Shinhye turned to acting on the recommendation of an acting teacher. The first audition she ever took was for Stairway to Heaven, and Park Shinhye said, "I was in second year of middle school. I took my first audition and was cast."
Having started as a child actor, Park Shinhye said she worried about her future around the time she was a high school sophomore. She said, "Because I started as a child actor, I hadn't really studied in middle and high school, and I wondered, 'If I stop acting what will I do?' I agonized for three to four years. 'If I quit, how will my family eat?' So I clung to it more," she confessed.
Meanwhile, Park Shinhye recalled the moment her mother first voiced hardships about work.
Park Shinhye said, "Once my mother was having a hard time and said, 'I won't work anymore. You earn the money,'" and added, "But a year later she said, 'Shall we try running a yanggopchang restaurant?' She is running a restaurant to this day."
Meanwhile, Park Shinhye choked up as she confessed her father's health condition. She said, "My father is like Superman," then added, "Actually, recently my father was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm and a heart condition was also discovered, so I realized my father is not the Superman I knew," she said.
In the end Park Shinhye said, "Honestly, it's scary because you never know when a cerebral aneurysm will burst. And lately I've felt I'm getting older because I find myself going to funerals more often; of course there is still much time left, but it won't be as long as I thought. In that, you realize the importance of family more," and she shed tears.<
