Jan. 21, 2026, marks the 19th anniversary of singer Yuni's death at the age of 25. She tragically ended her life at her home in Incheon on Jan. 21, 2007, just one day before the release of her third album, shocking and saddening the public.
Born in 1981, Yuni first debuted as an actress in 1996 through the KBS drama "A new generation report, adults don't know." She later appeared in the dramas "Tears of the Dragon" and "The King and the Queen" and the film SEVENTEEN, building a solid acting career under the name Lee Hyeryeon.
In 2003, she began a second life as a singer under the name "Yuni." Through her first album "Ga," she presented shocking performances, and her 2005 second album "Call Call Call" won the public's great love with its unique sexiness and sophisticated dance. Her final third album, "Solo Fantasy," is remembered as the album that contained the last passion Yuni wanted to show as an artist.
During her life, Yuni suffered unseen pain from numerous malicious comments and baseless rumors because of her image as a sexy singer. She appealed about excessive malicious comments and serious personal attacks on social media, and after Yuni's death, her mother said, "She was introverted, but she seemed to repress the hurts inside so she wouldn't appear that way. She tried to act strong and get through it, so it was harder to endure. She was a good child. I hope people don't see her badly."
