'Culinary Class Wars 2' Song Hoon defended Culinary Monster Lee Ha-sung's remarks.
On the 20th, in a video released on the YouTube channel '회식요리사', Netflix's 'Culinary Class Wars 2' Song Hoon appeared and revealed behind-the-scenes of the program.
That day Song Hoon said, "In the one-on-one match I faced Culinary Monster Lee Ha-sung. Chef Lee Ha-sung came out and when asked to say a word he said, 'A chef in his prime said he's better than Chef Song Hoon, didn't he?' That comment was made. I was asked what I felt when I heard that."
In response Song Hoon said, "I didn't expect him to say that. My feelings probably showed on my face. I was very embarrassed," and explained the process that led him to face the Culinary Monster, saying, "If I didn't choose him in this situation, it would create a mood of deliberately avoiding him."
Song Hoon also said, "I'm New York and this guy is California. So there's a bit of an east-versus-west rivalry," and added, "You could say I was a hero of the old era, and this guy is a rising hero of the new era, so I wondered what would happen if they faced off."
What if Song Hoon had heard that while serving as a judge on 'MasterChef Korea'? He said, "I don't think I would have laughed like that; I would have gone to the waiting room. I would have said, 'What the hell did you do?'."
Song Hoon said he received an apology from the Culinary Monster during the filming of 'Culinary Class Wars 2'. Song Hoon recalled, "That guy apologized twice. Since we couldn't be together, I happened to go to take a profile and at the buffet he said, 'Chef, I did it on my own.' So I told him he did well. I said, 'That way it's fun for you, and my embarrassed reaction came across well.' "
Meanwhile, Culinary Monster Lee Ha-sung recently bowed his head over his remarks on the program in a Netflix YouTube video.
The Culinary Monster, asked, "Is there anything you want to say to viewers?", said, "I think I was very desperate and earnest during the filming. I had been lucky to work at good restaurants. I thought that would help when opening a restaurant and that I could do it without major difficulty, but the thought that it wouldn't kept gnawing at me," and added, "I wondered, 'Should I have worked harder? Didn't I try enough?' I also felt strongly that if I didn't achieve good results in this filming, everything I had done so far could have been for nothing, so my behavior and words were expressed a bit more strongly. Because of that, I think I made many people uncomfortable," and apologized while bowing his head.
The Culinary Monster also said, "But it was just me who behaved that way, and I feel sorry that it may have been a burden to the production staff who worked hard on the program, and I apologize for causing discomfort to viewers," and added, "From now on I'll remain a chef who cooks in my own kitchen, so if you ever come to New York I'd appreciate it if you came to eat," reiterating his apology.
