'On Ubala Radio,' Jun Hyun-moo expressed his conviction about breakups after two public relationships.
On the 20th episode of SBS entertainment show Mumu X Chacha - Ubala Radio, a variety of stages unfolded pitting competition rivals against long-time friends. From duet stages to competitions between four-member male and female groups, the format, which blended music and personal stories, captured viewers' attention.
In the show's first segment, which gifts songs matching listeners' stories, stages themed on "breakup" continued, leaving echoes of different emotions. In particular, when the story of a male audience member who expressed regret after a breakup was revealed, MC Cha Taehyun and Jun Hyun-moo engaged in a realistic talk about dating and breakups.
Cha Taehyun shared an anecdote about his marriage that drew sympathy. He recalled, "Although the movie My Sassy Girl was a huge success, my twenties were a period of gradual decline afterward," and added, "Even at my hardest time, there was this greed that made me want to try one more big thing. So I postponed marriage." He continued, "Then the year my wife turned 30, she said, 'marry me or break up,'" and honestly confessed, "When I heard that I ran and held on. That's how I ended up getting married."
The question of "how do you overcome a breakup" then turned to Jun Hyun-moo. Jun Hyun-moo began without hesitation, "There is a most powerful one-shot."
He said, "Love is properly forgotten by another love," and added, "After breaking up I drank, visited places of memories, sang breakup songs—all of that, but it had no meaning at all." He went on, "It would look very pathetic even in my ex-girlfriend's eyes," and firmly added, "It's better to live my life better. The lesson is you have to stop being pathetic."
With stages that comforted breakups through music and realistic advice drawn from experience, the broadcast delivered both empathy and laughter.
Meanwhile, Jun Hyun-moo began a public relationship with model and television personality Han Hye-jin in February 2018 but they broke up after about a year. He later acknowledged a second public relationship in November 2019 with KBS announcer Lee Hye-seong, who is 15 years his junior, but they officially announced their breakup in February 2022.
Jun Hyun-moo's candid remarks after experiencing two public relationships and breakups added deeper persuasive power when coupled with the day's theme of "breakup."<
