Broadcaster Kim Sook delivered a blunt rebuke about the "antisocial behaviors" that often occur at winter campsites.
On the 19th, a video titled "The perfect winter camping guide! Camping obsessive Kim Sook's tips + must-haves revealed" was posted on Kim Sook's YouTube channel.
That day, Kim Sook emphasized campsite etiquette along with safety rules for novice campers and offered practical advice.
Kim Sook said, "The most important thing in camping is the fight against the cold," noting the importance of preparing functional clothing, then strongly warned about using heating devices. She said, "Sometimes because it's too cold people bring an outdoor stove into the tent, but you must never do that. Stoves are for outdoor use only." She went on to mention the risk of wildfires, saying, "I've seen cases where embers flew on dry, windy days and caused fires."
In particular, Kim Sook cited noise at campsites and public displays of affection as "major antisocial behaviors." She said, "A tent is not a soundproof space. It's just fabric. At night even small sounds can be heard," and added firmly, "When people drink they get louder and sometimes it leads to public displays of affection; if you want to do that, go to a motel."
She added a rueful but relatable note, saying, "You wake up in the morning and people are looking at you weirdly? That means they heard everything." Kim Sook urged, "There is a manners time at campsites. The space between tents is not as wide as you think," and appealed, "Camping just to drink is a nuisance to surrounding people. Please follow the rules."
She also addressed food waste management and the importance of protecting nature. Kim Sook stressed, "You go camping to feel and protect nature, not to harm it," and warned, "Actions that attract wildlife and failing to manage fires are truly dangerous."
Regarding heating, she said, "Most accidents come from heating," listing essential rules when using kerosene heaters: always turn off power before refueling, secure ventilation openings, and carry a fire extinguisher and carbon monoxide alarm.
Kim Sook reiterated, "You go camping to heal, not to give other people stress," urging novice campers to take both safety and manners into account.
