'Actor Ryu Si-won candidly revealed his love story with his wife. One breakup, a three-year gap, and a rekindled relationship led to an ending made by sincerity.
On the 19th, through TV CHOSUN's variety show "Lovers of Joseon," Ryu Si-won revealed his wife.
The two experienced one breakup during their relationship. The wife said, "After we broke up once, about three years passed before we met again." Looking back on the time, Ryu Si-won confessed, "Because I had the experience of failure in a previous marriage, I was at a time when I had decided I would never marry again," and "I thought there would be no more marriage in my life."
But the breakup was not because feelings cooled. Even after they parted, the two occasionally asked about each other's well-being and celebrated birthdays, never completely letting go of the ties between them. Then one day, a birthday message led to continued conversation, and naturally they made a plan to "have a meal together." On the day they met again after three years, the wife said, "For some reason I felt like he would ask to get back together that day."
The hunch was right. Ryu Si-won recalled, "I hadn't seen her in a long time, but she was still beautiful. I felt that if I let this friend go that day, I would regret it for the rest of my life," and "I walked her to her door, didn't look back, and said let's meet again."
The wife also honestly conveyed her feelings when she met him again. She said, "There were no men courting me after the breakup. I was so busy with work that I had no emotional leeway," and "But with my husband, after dating once it felt very comfortable. He didn't put pressure on me and felt like he understood everything."
Small gestures moved the heart. The wife said, "One day he packed a sandwich lunch for me, and those small things were truly touching," and "He even attached his photo inside a card and gave it to me; I still have them all." Ryu Si-won added, "I keep all the movie tickets and notes we saw together."
Even now, in their sixth year of marriage, the couple's displays of affection remain the same. Ryu Si-won laughed, "We hold hands and walk around at home," and the wife explained, "When I hold his hand while sleeping, I nuzzle him. That means 'I love you.'" She added with a laugh, "But when I say I love you, my husband doesn't immediately respond. He deliberately hesitates, and that feels good, too," and "Then I keep saying I love you, like a joke."
Not everything was smooth. There was parental opposition before the marriage. The wife said, "My father always respected me, but because I'm an only daughter, my mother opposed it a lot," and "She put much stock in judging people by their occupation." Ryu Si-won personally visited his mother-in-law to explain and cleared up misunderstandings one by one. In the end, he was able to get permission to marry, saying, "She felt this person's sincerity."
After one failure and a long gap, the two held hands again. Ryu Si-won's love story showed what "love proven by time" is and left viewers with a deep impression.
