'To My Beloved Thief' actor Hong Min-gi is playing a central role in the drama, alternating between suffocating, cold-blooded charisma and subtle tsundere charm.
On the 17th and 18th, episodes 5-6 of the KBS 2TV weekend miniseries 'To My Beloved Thief' aired, depicting Im Jae-i (Hong Min-gi) beginning to reveal the complex emotions hidden beneath as he openly sharpens his edge toward Hong Eun-jo (Nam Ji-hyun), his deceased grandfather's new bride. Hong Min-gi has been praised for successfully transforming his acting by completing a three-dimensional character with chilling eyes and restrained emotional performance that completely erase the gentle image from his previous work.
The highlight of this broadcast was Jae-i's ambivalent attitude toward Eun-jo. in front of Eun-jo he always growled, spouting cruel barbs such as "I came to take away the corpse, I guess I came early" and "I was worried he might die before I could trample him," yet contrary to his words he secretly had servants prepare Eun-jo's meals and, unable to suppress his concern, hovered around her, showing a reversal like a "cold flame." Hong Min-gi captured a fleeting wavering in his eyes within the sharp weight behind each line, drawing viewers beyond the screen into the character's narrative.
Hong Min-gi's control of tempo in portraying Jae-i's complex inner world also shone. he maintained an endlessly bland and composed attitude before his fiancée Shin Hae-rim (Han So Eun), but when involved with Eun-jo he lost his composure and reacted sharply, delicately depicting contrasting temperature differences. these detailed performances heightened curiosity about Jae-i's intimate wounds and hidden backstory, increasing the drama's appeal.
Also, while clashing with his father Im Sa-hyung (Choi Won-young) he showed nimbleness in probing Lee Yeol's (Moon Sang Min) weaknesses at his father's command, adding taut tension to the drama. when his older brother Im Seung-jae (Do Sang-woo) tormented Eun-jo he appeared to watch indifferently, but in fact he seemed to monitor every situation from unseen places and protect Eun-jo, proving he is not a simple villain but a delicate and meticulous figure.
Amid protagonists whose souls have switched, Hong Min-gi, who stepped forward as a cold observer and executor, has now begun full-scale moves to capture Lee Yeol. expectations are growing for the hard carrying he will show as he disrupts the course of upcoming events and in tangled relationships with Nam Ji-hyun and Moon Sang Min.
Meanwhile, the KBS 2TV weekend miniseries 'To My Beloved Thief' airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m.
