Actress the late Choi Jin-sil's daughter Choi Jun-hee revealed her mother's handwritten letter, evoking sympathy, but suspicions arose that she might once again be targeting her maternal grandmother.
On the 13th, Choi Jun-hee said, "For the first time in a while there was an article about my mother, not me. A fan of my mother received a fan letter and called it a treasure to cherish for life and said they were happy; it was a letter received 35 years ago. I was so happy and grateful that it was kept so carefully. I love the fans as much as my mother did, so I express it like this every day—could this be hereditary too?"
She added, "But I am not as handy as my mother, so my handwriting is crooked and I can't always send things prettily. My mother must have been 100 times busier than me, and it's amazing and admirable that she still sent letters to fans amid that schedule. I hope the gifts that carry her feelings packed tightly will deliver happiness to you all."
The video released together showed a fan letter that Choi Jun-hee received from a fan of Choi Jin-sil. The fan letter was a handwritten reply Choi Jin-sil personally wrote for a young fan and was reported to be a letter from as long as 35 years ago, drawing attention. The content included phrases such as 'Surprised? I received the letter you sent to your older sister in pretty handwriting.'
The letter, which lets you glimpse Choi Jin-sil's love for her fans, evoked warmth and poignancy, and a note added by Choi Jun-hee became the target of controversy. Choi Jun-hee wrote, "I didn't grow up receiving love, but fortunately I grew up wanting to share love abundantly. Mom, thank you."
Because of that note, some speculated that Choi Jun-hee was targeting her maternal grandmother. Choi Jun-hee has claimed she suffered verbal abuse, discrimination and other domestic violence from her maternal grandmother in 2017. In 2023 it became known that she reported her maternal grandmother to the police on charges of trespassing at the residence of her half brother Choi Hwan-hee, and she apologized after public criticism poured in.
Also, after receiving an award at an awards ceremony last year, she mentioned her great-aunt, her boyfriend, her half brother Choi Hwan-hee, broadcaster Hong Jin Kyung and singer Uhm Jung-hwa, but did not mention her maternal grandmother, indirectly revealing that they still had a rift.
