'Si'-like life of actress the late Yoon Jeong-hee marks third anniversary of her death.
Yoon Jeong-hee died in France at about 5 p.m. local time on Jan. 19, 2023, at the age of 78. It has been four years since it was revealed on Nov. 2019 that she had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for 10 years.
Her husband, pianist Baek Geon-woo, at the time sent an email titled 'Actress Yoon Jeong-hee passed away,' saying, My wife and longtime beloved actress Yoon Jeong-hee passed away on the 19th at about 5 p.m., with a peaceful, dreaming expression as she listened to the sound of her daughter Jin-hee's violin.
He continued, According to Jin-hee's mother's wishes, the funeral will be held quietly in Paris with family, and added, I hope people will remember actress Yoon Jeong-hee, who lived her life with a passion for film, for a long time.
The late Yoon Jeong-hee, who had been battling illness in Paris under the devoted care of her husband Baek Geon-woo and her daughter, at one point had a sudden legal dispute with her biological siblings. Yoon Jeong-hee's siblings reportedly filed objections to the status of property and personal guardianship concerning Baek Geon-woo and the biological daughter in a French court and lost.
Yoon Jeong-hee, who debuted in the film 'Cheongchun Geukjang' in 1697, gained popularity as part of the 'actress troika' alongside Nam Jeong-im and Moon Hee. She appeared in 208 works including 'General's Beard,' 'Shingung,' 'Evening's Woe,' 'Woman in Crisis,' and 'Manmubang,' and won numerous trophies at the Grand Bell Awards, Blue Dragon Film Awards, and Baeksang Arts Awards.
In particular, the late Yoon Jeong-hee, despite being a top actress in 1973, suddenly announced she would study abroad and left for France, and in 1976 she made headlines by announcing her marriage to Baek Geon-woo.
After a long hiatus, the late Yoon Jeong-hee returned in 2010 in director Lee Chang-dong's film 'Si,' winning best actress awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Cinemanila International Film Festival. She was also praised, receiving the French government's Order of Cultural Merit.
