SBS 'Passionate Basketball Team' grandly concluded season 1 with the broadcast on Jan. 17 (Sat).
According to producer Seo Hyun-seok, 'Passionate Basketball Team' is a real basketball growth variety program in which Korea basketball legend Seo Jang-hoon serves as head coach and K-pop stars and entertainers participate as players, and it started from the planning intent of "let's play real basketball, not celebrity basketball."
1 year of preparation, and the birth of the team
Season 1 of 'Passionate Basketball Team' was a difficult challenge from the planning stage. The production team and head coach Seo Jang-hoon went to persuade each celebrity player one by one starting about a year earlier, and they formed the team despite each person's packed schedules. In particular, because of the nature of their jobs as entertainers, members' days were tight with shoots, performances and drama schedules, but they split late nights and early mornings to gather on the court and continue practicing. Training that continued even on days without filming turned the team into a real basketball team, not just a 'variety cast.'
Season 1 game history
During season 1, the Passionate Basketball Team gained real-game experience by facing top-tier teams at home and abroad.
Starting with the first game against Park Jin-Young's BPM team, they faced top domestic teams such as Gimhae Masters, Jay Crew and Owls, and regardless of the results, they played each game with sincerity. In the process the team clearly grew, and viewers watched that change. Regardless of game results, the team noticeably improved every game. Tactical understanding and teamwork improved, and viewers watched "how a celebrity basketball team transforms into a real team."
The pinnacle of season 1, the Philippines expedition
The finale of season 1 was an overseas expedition game held at the SM Arena Mall in the Philippines (15,000 seats). With 15,000 spectators filling the stadium, the game remained an unforgettable moment for both the Passionate Basketball Team and the production staff.
Through the match against the Philippine team, the Passionate Basketball Team shared an experience beyond a simple overseas friendly, becoming one through basketball, and the members said in unison, "It was an unforgettable time to play real basketball in front of so many fans."
End of season 1, and toward what's next
According to production company CU Media Group, 'Season 1 of Passionate Basketball Team was a project that completed its course after a difficult planning and tough shooting process. Yet they gathered every night and sweated with nothing but pure passion for basketball, and that sincerity resonated with many viewers and fans. Season 1 is over, but the Passionate Basketball Team's challenge does not stop. The production team and head coach Seo Jang-hoon are preparing "season 2" toward a bigger stage and deeper basketball,' the company said.
The next journey to share basketball with more courts and more people has already begun.
