The troubadour of the music industry, Choi Baek-ho, for the first time revealed his love story with his wife and recalled memories of love that spanned an era.
In yesterday's broadcast on MBN 'Kim Joo-ha's Day & Night' on the 17th, Choi Baek-ho, marking his 50th year since debut, appeared and shared stories about his life, music, and family.
That day Choi Baek-ho opened up by saying, in response to the question "How did you meet your wife," "We met as if it were destiny." He recalled that when he was singing in Itaewon, he met his now-wife for the first time through an introduction from an acquaintance, and afterward they happened to run into each other repeatedly at a wedding hall and on a department store escalator. He said, "Because we kept meeting again, I thought it was fate."
But the two people's meeting was not all smooth. Choi Baek-ho recalled, "The families' opposition was very strong," saying, "My father-in-law even came to the boarding house and said if you keep meeting her you won't be able to have a social life." At first he thought it was because of his history of divorce, but he added that it turned out that being from Gyeongsang Province was also one of the reasons for the opposition.
In the end Choi Baek-ho decided to go down to Busan to live, and his wife followed him there. He calmly said, "That's how we got married," and, "My father-in-law did not come to the wedding and only my mother-in-law attended." After their daughter was born, the relationship gradually eased, and he said the conflict was naturally resolved when he received contact from his father-in-law first.
Choi Baek-ho confessed, "Even now I tell my wife, 'If it weren't for you I wouldn't have made it this far,' " and said, "My life of drinking and wandering was put in order after meeting my wife, and having a daughter made me pull myself together." He added, "So I consider my life to be romantic."
After the broadcast, internet users also showed various reactions. Responses such as "That was the way of those times.
