On "Secretaries," Nam Jin recalled the past when he was attacked by three gangsters and attracted attention by saying he showed leniency to the assailant.
On the 16th, the SBS variety show "My Too Harsh Secretaries - Secretaries" (hereinafter "Secretaries") aired, featuring the living legend of Korea's pop music industry, superstar Nam Jin as "my star".
Near the performance venue that day, Nam Jin, who was receiving treatment on his leg, said, "I ran four times a day for eight hours, so I can't not receive it," noting that he receives leg massages as a pre-show routine.
At that time Nam Jin recalled the 1989 incident in which three gangsters stabbed his thigh, telling the masseur, "I injured my left leg. I was stabbed with a sharp object long ago. The knife went in here (thigh). I was hit from behind and it came out forward. If it had missed by even 1 mm, I would have been disabled."
Later, while moving with the secretaries, Nam Jin calmly spoke about the stabbing incident: "There is the aorta. If that is touched, you die in three minutes. If it had gone through there, I probably couldn't have done this program," adding, "I'm glad. It didn't become XX," and saying, "We're lucky because I'm alive."
In particular, Nam Jin surprised everyone by revealing he even ate with the man who stabbed him. When Lee Seo-jin said, "It's not common to meet and eat with the person who stabbed you," Nam Jin said, "It's not easy. There is a reason. That friend's life changed. That's fate, right? We even ate together a few days ago," adding to the curiosity.
Nam Jin said the assailant stabbed him with a sashimi knife at the time, saying, "When I was standing, I was hit from behind. It came out forward."
As time passed and he met the assailant, Nam Jin recounted, "At a junior's wedding, while drinking coffee with companions, someone knelt and approached. It was the guy who stabbed me. I looked and thought, 'What is this?' and it was the friend who stabbed me then. I said, 'You son of a bitch, you surprised me. I thought you brought it again.' When I came, he said he was glad and came to greet me."
He continued, "There is a reason for that. When the accident happened, wasn't it attempted murder? I did my best to reduce the sentence," confessing that he showed leniency to the assailant.
Aside from the stabbing incident, Nam Jin faced another near-death experience. It was when a bomb almost exploded during his Vietnam War deployment.
Nam Jin said, "I was eating when a bomb exploded here (on the left). But it was a dud," adding, "There was a 'shh' sound. Everyone dropped to the ground. A bomb was right next to us. Sand got in and it spun uselessly. I was in my early twenties, so I wasn't afraid. Someone who was there told me, 'If that had gone off that day, you and I wouldn't be in this world.'"
Upon hearing this, Lee Seo-jin said, "Hearing this, you should be careful on the left side. Both the bomb and the wound—be careful on the left side," and Nam Jin agreed.
