Dynamic Duo's Gaeko and influencer-entrepreneur Kim Sumi announced their divorce after 14 years of marriage, shocking the public, and a conversation Gaeko had about marriage when he and Choiza appeared as guests on a program about two years ago is being reexamined.
On the 16th, Gaeko posted on his personal social media, "With a cautious heart I share personal news," and said, "After many long conversations, we decided to end our relationship as a married couple while respecting each other's lives." He added, "Our responsibilities and roles as parents will continue unchanged," clarifying their plan for joint parenting.
On the same day, Kim Sumi also posted on social media, "After long and sufficient conversations last year, we made a choice that respects each other's lives," and said, "We will continue our responsibilities as parents together going forward."
The two had openly shown affection for each other through broadcasts and social media, drawing attention as a "loving couple." In particular, in 2022 Kim Sumi revealed a story that Gaeko had given her a savings passbook in which he saved 1 million won every month for 10 years for her, totaling 12 million won, which drew public interest. Because such anecdotes were known, the public's shock at the divorce news was even greater.
Also, on the Aug. 2023 broadcast of SBS PowerFM's "Choi Hwajung's Power Time," Dynamic Duo's Gaeko and Choiza appeared as guests and talked about marriage. At the time, Choiza, two months into marriage, confessed, "Honestly, I was afraid of marriage. Living alone was fun and good, but seeing how well the two of us were doing and how well the child was growing made me think, 'it would be okay to do it.' The hurdles got a lot lower."
When DJ Choi Hwajung asked Gaeko, "If you could give Choiza one piece of advice for a good married life, what would it be?", Choiza said, "What helped a lot when preparing for marriage was: just listen well beside her, let her prepare the wedding as she wants, but act as if you haven't given her full authority. That helped a lot," drawing laughter.
As the conversation turned to eating habits, Gaeko said, "Sumi doesn't cook often, but she makes a few things I like well. She eats much less than I do and eats healthily. She likes to have salmon with her salad in the morning, so I ended up doing the same," sharing a typical married life scene. He added, "She lived in the U.S. for a long time, so at first she was picky about tastes, but living together for a long time definitely changed her palate."
Meanwhile, Gaeko and Kim Sumi married in 2011 and have one son and one daughter. After marriage and childbirth, Kim Sumi devoted herself to childcare and later entered the cosmetics business, establishing herself as an entrepreneur; she candidly shared her career break and reemployment process, gaining sympathy.
