Geumjjok, who had previously caused concern after being placed in a dangerous situation by extreme behavior, reappeared two weeks after the solution. In that episode, the conflict between Geumjjok and her mother over open chat rooms was laid bare.
While sitting on the sofa talking, the mother cautiously suggested to Geumjjok, "How about leaving all the open chat rooms?" She hoped that now she would form real friendships, not just online ones. But Geumjjok reacted violently, saying, "I will never leave."
After her mother's persuasion, Geumjjok left some open chat rooms, and before leaving she even posted the message, "I am leaving due to personal reasons." Watching this, the mother emphasized that she must leave any chat rooms that included adults. The chat room in question included people born in 1999 and other unverified adults in their late 20s, creating a very dangerous situation for a middle school student like Geumjjok.
But Geumjjok refused to leave, showing intense anger because "many of my closest people are in this room." In the end she kicked her mother who tried to stop her, and the mother who was struck by the kick fell backward and hit the wall, producing a dizzying situation.
When asked about the reason for the obsession with open chat rooms, Dr. Oh Eun-young explained, "The most important relationships in life are the close relationships that actually exist beside me," and added, "If you are hurt at school, friends can help immediately, but people met in open chat rooms cannot come running when you are truly in trouble."
She went on to analyze, "For Geumjjok, having someone respond immediately is more important than anything. Friends have to coordinate time, and a mother may be disconnected when she works, but in open chat rooms you are connected 24 hours with hundreds or thousands of people," adding, "For Geumjjok it is a group that does not reject her and a relationship she can participate in without coordination." She added that this seems to have resulted in insufficient practice in forming and negotiating relationships with others.
