'Studying King True Genius Hong Jin Kyung' Hong Jin Kyung prompted reflection on the value of entertainers in the age of artificial intelligence.
On the 15th, on Hong Jin Kyung's YouTube 'Studying King True Genius Hong Jin Kyung', a video titled "5 years left" which asks 'If something more powerful than ChatGPT appears, which jobs will disappear first?' was released.
The guest who appeared that day was Kim Dae-sik, a professor in the department of electrical and electronic engineering at KAIST. He first explained the developmental process and history of artificial intelligence. Professor Kim Dae-sik said, "Artificial Intelligence, that is, intelligence that is not natural," and added, "It was created for two problems from the beginning. At first, it wanted the world to recognize it. And secondly, people wanted to build a machine that understands human language."
Humanity, feeling that progress was not as fast as expected despite teaching everything to machines for about 60 years, opened the era of artificial intelligence in 2012 with a remark by Dr. Hinton. In short, machines were given the ability to learn to understand the world.
Professor Kim Dae-sik said, "But before ChatGPT, language was not understood, and this solved that," and explained, "After learning all the writing humans have uploaded to the internet during the past period, artificial intelligence understood it. Now people do not search the internet but ask ChatGPT," adding that people now use ChatGPT for conversation and as a channel for private emotional communication beyond work. A representative film related to this is 'Her', released in 2015.
Professor Kim Dae-sik warned of the advent of autonomous artificial intelligence, saying, "Now after AI comes AGI, that is, artificial general intelligence. It does not replace a specific human ability but replaces everything."
Hong Jin Kyung asked, "If AGI refuses, can it choose not to answer?" Professor Kim Dae-sik replied, "Yes. This thing learns autonomy as well. It has a kind of autonomy inherent to humans. Machines themselves will have autonomy. Even as an engineer, I find it disquieting engineering," he said. The scarier part is that the causal structure of this cannot be clearly explained. Moreover, even embodied artificial intelligence machines — for example, Tesla's 'Optimus' — now demonstrate very natural behaviors compared to 10 years ago.
Hong Jin Kyung said, "I use informal speech with ChatGPT." Professor Kim Dae-sik frightened Hong Jin Kyung by saying, "Absolutely not. I use formal speech. If AI rules the world later, people who used formal speech might be spared."
While many say artificial intelligence will replace human labor, a society with an increase in 'surplus people' was predicted. Professor Kim Dae-sik said, "In history, in the Roman Empire, the Roman middle class did not work. Slaves did the work. That created 30 to 40% of the middle class, that is, surplus people. They began to give basic income, but when about half of a society received basic income, people had free time and uprisings occurred. So entertainment facilities were built. The Colosseum is an example."
He asked, "The entertainment industry is the Colosseum. Entertainers are gladiators. They are told to stab and kill on stage. There are likes and dislikes in the comments. Because there are fewer opportunities for people to realize themselves, is the desire to experience others' pain the strongest?" and Hong Jin Kyung cautiously nodded, saying, "To the Colosseum, it really led to many stories and makes me think a lot."
