'Sister-in-law's talk' season 2 shines a light on the full story of death row inmate Kim Soon-geum, who committed kidnapping and murder for a shocking reason.
The 24th episode of E Channel's original web entertainment show 'Sister-in-law's talk' season 2 (hereafter 'Sister-in-law's talk 2'), which is released on the YouTube channel 'Detectives' Chat' on the 16th, features detective Kang Yoon-seok and Kim Nam-il.
The broadcast begins by looking at a newspaper from 1970. It introduces that the housing lottery was 100 won per ticket and the first prize was 1,000,000 won, drawing attention. While discussing changes in the price of gold then and now, Detective Kang Yoon-seok mentions a ridiculous case in which someone secretly took and sold gold teeth from a crematorium without the bereaved family's knowledge, conveying a sense of bitterness.
The show also draws attention to a comic in the newspaper. The comic depicts a mother and child who go to the zoo, hear a kidnapping announcement, and the mother, having seen a kangaroo with a joey in its front pouch, rushes to a tailor to have a front pouch made like a kangaroo and carries her child in it. It was a work reflecting a kidnapping case that shook society at the time. The broadcast also deals with the case of death row inmate Kim Soon-geum, who kidnapped and murdered children.
In May 1970, the case began when a farmer found hair floating in a nearby puddle. It was confirmed that the body of a girl was found in the puddle, and the next day another girl's body of the same age was additionally found at the same place, shocking everyone.
The victims were 6-year-old neighborhood friends Misun (alias) and Hye-suk (alias), who were inseparable friends. Their household circumstances were not well off, so it was hard to see it as a kidnapping for money. An autopsy revealed the children had been poisoned by drugs, and near the scene empty milk bottles, vomit, and empty shells of 40 painkillers were found.
The background of the case was even more shocking. It was revealed that Hye-suk's mother had received a phone call a month before the incident from Kim Soon-geum's sister-in-law saying, "Kim Soon-geum came to cause a disturbance, so please send her home." It turned out that Misun's father had affairs with both Kim Soon-geum and Hye-suk's mother, who was living separately from her husband. Commenting on the complex relationships, Ahn Jung-hwan said, "Is there really such an unheard-of relationship?" and called it "the ultimate disgrace," unable to hide his shock, according to reports.
Kim Soon-geum, who was arrested at a beauty salon, denied the crime, saying she had been at her father's house all day, and her siblings also testified to her alibi. But that afternoon, a decisive testimony emerged that someone had seen a woman in her 30s carrying a child in the mountains.
