E'LAST member Wonhyuk grants a role in the musical "Romeo and Juliet."
On the 15th (today), his agency E-Entertainment said, "E'LAST's Wonhyuk has been cast as Mercutio in the musical "Romeo and Juliet." Following his presence in the pop music industry, please show much interest in Wonhyuk's activities as he makes his mark in the musical world as well."
The musical "Romeo and Juliet," in which Wonhyuk appears, is the tragic love story of Romeo of the Montague family and Juliet of the Capulet family, based on Shakespeare's play of the same name. "Romeo and Juliet," which premiered in Paris, France, in 2001, met audiences with a 2007 performance in Korea.
Wonhyuk plays Mercutio, the nephew of the lord of Verona and Romeo's closest friend. Mercutio, who has a willful and provocative personality, forms a rivalry with Juliet's cousin Tybalt. In particular, he is a character who is stabbed by Tybalt and meets death, turning the tone of the play from comedy to tragedy, drawing attention to the intense acting Wonhyuk will present.
Regarding his appearance in "Romeo and Juliet," Wonhyuk said, "I am honored to be able to leave my fourth work as the wonderful piece 'Romeo and Juliet,'" and added, "Having received this precious opportunity, I will show a more grown and increasingly anticipated musical actor Wonhyuk."
Wonhyuk previously impressed audiences with commanding stage energy through prominent works such as the premiere and revival of the musical "Happy Oh! Happy" and "Bloody Love." Through this "Romeo and Juliet," Wonhyuk is expected to fully play the role of a genre changer who instantly shifts the flow of the play with his matured singing ability and further upgraded acting.
Meanwhile, the musical "Romeo and Juliet," where audiences can see Wonhyuk's new transformation, will run from March 24 to May 31 at the KEPCO Art Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
