Beast alumnus singer Jang Hyunseung reflected on his mistakes from his 'Revenant' days.
On the 15th, a video titled "Revenant exorcism aftermath: Jang Hyunseung update live (w. exorcist Jaejae)" was uploaded to the "MMTG" channel.
That day, MC Jaejae invited the "original exorcism idol" Jang Hyunseung as a guest and conducted a live broadcast together. While first chatting about recent happenings, Jaejae said, "There was a Revanant period," mentioning Jang Hyunseung's incomprehensible behavior during his Revanant days.
He looked at a selfie Jang Hyunseung had posted with his eyes rolled back and asked, "Why did you roll your eyes back like that when you took it? This is exactly something elementary school nephews really like," and Jang Hyunseung regretted, "I was immature then. Did I really post this with my own hands? Why? I wonder. Why would I have posted it with my own hands."
Jaejae comforted him, saying, "I think that can happen," but Jang Hyunseung replied firmly, "No, not at all. Really, why.." which brought laughter.
Jaejae continued, "After this time it became famous that after military enlistment he was completely exorcised. Do you see how his eyes, his gaze, changed? They became so clear," referring to photos that showed liveliness after enlistment.
He asked, "He looks very far from a Revanant. What on earth happened in the military that led to an exorcism?" and Jang Hyunseung explained, "When you go there you just become a good person on your own. Since I enlisted late, even if I couldn't do well, I didn't want to be a nuisance."
But Jaejae brought up another dark chapter of Jang Hyunseung, saying, "But wait, it seems he was exorcised here, then briefly joined Swings' agency under the name Able. What happened?" Seeing this, Jang Hyunseung was flustered and drew a line, saying, "That wasn't me; that person is no longer around. It was a misunderstanding," which added to the laughter.
Jaejae asked, "Many people say he didn't change 180 degrees but 720 degrees. Do you think now is closer to his true self than when he was possessed by a Revanant?" and Jang Hyunseung confessed, "Yes," saying he seems completely exorcised now.
Later, the preview for the next episode revealed sightings from Jang Hyunseung's "Revanant days." In response to a sighting that said, "He always had a cool expression and kept a straight face," Jang Hyunseung wondered, "Why did I do that?" In addition, when allegations about his attitude at fan sign events poured in—such as, "I asked, 'Are you tired?' and he answered, 'Yes,' and that was the entirety of the conversation that day," and, "I asked if he was sick and he said his heart hurts. Was it more painful than my bank account?"—he showed remorse, saying, "I was rude," and, "I caused hurt. I shouldn't have done that; I'm sorry. I was wrong."
Meanwhile, Jang Hyunseung debuted in 2009 as a member of Beast, but amid ongoing attitude controversies from 2016, he drew fans' ire and officially left the group in April of that year. After that, he enlisted for active duty in the Army in 2018 and completed his military service. After leaving Cube Entertainment Corp. in 2020, he signed an exclusive contract in 2022 with Mainfied, known as rapper Swings' company, and as the stage name "ABLE" he also promoted albums. Recently, he moved to MPLIFY under Warner Music Korea and continues activities as a solo singer.
