Im Lala recalled the in vitro fertilization she began in her early 30s and frankly said, "It was really harder than I thought." After a long wait she was overjoyed to become pregnant with twins, but the pain began then.
Following severe morning sickness that began in the fifth week, she was tormented by "pruritus of pregnancy," which covered her body in red spots. Im Lala said, "I couldn't take medicine because I was pregnant, so I just had to endure it," and said she approached childbirth with her immunity depleted.
The real crisis came at the postpartum care center. A sudden postpartum hemorrhage occurred and she was rushed to the emergency room. Her husband Son Minsu, who witnessed the situation, described the scene's devastation, saying, "I was sitting in a chair and the chair was soaked with blood. Lala looked down the hallway she had gone into and the hallway looked like a murder scene—blood everywhere."
In particular, Son Minsu shocked the cast by confessing about the mysterious sound coming from the bathroom: "I thought water was running, but it turned out not to be water—it was the sound of blood flowing." He conveyed his despair, saying, "When I opened the door my wife had collapsed. I know I shouldn't think this way, but I thought, 'She's really dying.'"
During the 40 minutes she was being transported to the hospital, Im Lala fainted about 10 times and lost consciousness. Son Minsu added to the urgency of the moment, saying, "I think she fainted about 10 times in that short transport time."
