'I'm SOLO' season 29 carried on its 'total chaos romance' up until the day before the final decision.
On Wednesday the 14th, the real dating program I'm SOLO, aired on ENA and SBS Plus, unfolded scenes of the 29th group engulfed in utter confusion up to the night of day five at 'Solonara 29 Beonji'. Also, among the 'marriage couples' born from the 'older man-younger woman special', the groom was revealed to be the 'Confucian boy' Young-cheol, sending chills through viewers.
On that day Yeong-ho and Yeong-suk enjoyed a 'super date' at a gukjeokji specialty restaurant. At the restaurant Yeong-ho said, "Originally I wanted a definite answer by lunch on day four," testing Yeong-suk's true feelings. Yeong-suk showed her discomfort, saying, "I think that's different from me. I think becoming a (final) couple is the start of something romantic," indicating pressure. Then Yeong-ho immediately softened his stance, saying, "I guess it's the start of something romantic." He went on, "I also have a strong side like Young-cheol, but it doesn't show well so I'm upset," repeatedly mentioning Young-cheol. Yeong-suk comforted him, asking, "Why are you so lacking in confidence?" but Yeong-ho sighed, "You said I had the upper hand during the 2:1 date, but now you say it's about even," and sighed. After the date, Yeong-suk told production in an interview, "I wanted to go home quickly," revealing her interest in Yeong-ho had sharply dropped.
Earlier, Young-cheol, who had the 'super date' with Yeong-suk, enjoyed a second 'super date' with Jeong-suk. He carried Jeong-suk's bag and, mindful that she was wearing heels, guided her along an easier path to walk. In the car the two also talked about 'both working,' and Young-cheol expressed his view on marriage: "Men say they don't want to be ATMs, but if I can trust someone, I think it's better to be an ATM," appealing his personal belief. When they arrived at the restaurant they ate premium Korean beef, known as hanwoo, and Young-cheol suddenly asked Jeong-suk, "Have you had any plastic surgery?" Jeong-suk answered, "No." After the date, Young-cheol confessed to production, "I liked that she listened to me well and understood me. My feelings have changed significantly." Jeong-suk also said she was satisfied, noting, "He had good manners and strong self-opinion, which made him look impressive."
Yeong-ja gave off a cold vibe during Sang-cheol's date with Ok-sun, in which Sang-cheol used the 'super date right' on Ok-sun instead of her. Sang-cheol kept trying to lighten the mood, but Yeong-ja firmly said, "It's over for me now, so if you want to get to know Ok-sun, go ahead. My concerns no longer matter to you," decisively. After the brutal date Yeong-ja said, "It was a breakup date," ending the romance with Sang-cheol, and Sang-cheol revealed he had shifted his romantic interest toward Ok-sun.
Young-su began his 'super date' with Ok-sun by explaining himself to his mother, who had opposed an 'older woman.' He emphasized, "My mother is not the type to oppose if her son likes someone," which eased Ok-sun's mind and she happily tried an ATV experience. He then asked, "How is it? A date with Ok-sun?" and happily said, "Let's use this in the pre-ceremony video." Afterwards, finishing the date by taking a 'heart two-shot' at a cafe, Young-su told production, "The more we talk, the more certain I am that 'she is the one.'"
At a similar time, Yeong-sik went to find Hyeon-suk, who had refused to talk to him, for a '1:1 talk.' Hyeon-suk coldly said, "I have nothing to say," but Yeong-sik retorted, "I also have nothing to say," leaving Hyeon-suk embarrassed. Hyeon-suk asked, "If you have nothing to say, why did you call me?" and Yeong-sik said, "I wanted to spend time alone together. You said it wouldn't work with me at all, but I didn't think you'd go as far as refusing a '1:1 talk.'" In the end Hyeon-suk stood up, saying, "Our conversation styles really don't match," and left. Immediately afterward she explained to production the reason she had to be firm with Yeong-sik: "It felt like talking to a brick wall. I wanted to protect myself."
As the solo women returned one by one after finishing 'super dates,' Yeong-sik called Ok-sun and appealed, "If I give you a single rose, I wonder if it would make you feel good," asking to be considered as a dating partner. Ok-sun cautiously declined, yet Yeong-sik continued his pursuit by calling Yeong-suk, who was sleeping in the lodging room, out to continue his advances. Yeong-suk immediately 'fact-bombed' him, saying, "Are you a villain? Get real. Stop poking around everywhere!" She went on, "You're acting extremely strangely right now. Being honest can be selfish. You're comfortable but you make others uncomfortable," scolding him. Transforming into 'Oh Eun-yeong-suk,' Yeong-suk sharply advised, "Is this how you normally socialize? You need to socialize properly!"
Sang-cheol brought multivitamins and a handwritten letter to see Ok-sun. But Ok-sun rejected him, saying, "You're not my first choice anymore," leaving Sang-cheol dejected. She then called in Gwang-su and revealed, "My first choice is decided, but it's not Gwang-su." Gwang-su coolly said, "Even if I don't find a match here and leave, I feel I learned a lot and I'm grateful," and added, "I hope Ok-sun makes a good choice and is truly happy." However, when Gwang-su went into the men's room he showed lingering feelings, saying, "What can you do if she has no eye for people?" Sang-cheol also expressed regret about losing Yeong-ja because he said, "If only I had the 1:1 date with Ok-sun on day three..."
As the night deepened, the final date chosen by the solo men began. Here Young-su chose Ok-sun, and Yeong-ho chose Yeong-suk. But Yeong-sik shocked everyone by aiming straight for Yeong-suk. Yeong-suk was stunned, saying, "I told you to get a grip! Did you fall for that girl-crush charm?" Moments later Yeong-sik confessed to production that he had chosen Yeong-suk as a smokescreen, saying, "My heart is for Hyeon-suk, but I didn't want it to be revealed," admitting he picked Yeong-suk as a diversion. After deliberation Young-cheol went to Jeong-suk, and Gwang-su chose Sun-ja, with whom he had comfortable conversations in the lodging. Sang-cheol chose Yeong-ja, and Yeong-ja, while saying, "You only came because you had nowhere else to go," also smiled slightly, "So it's only me, right?"
In the following preview, Young-su appealed to Ok-sun, saying, "If you date me I can make you happy," while Yeong-ho suggested to Yeong-suk, "Let's date for about a month." Meanwhile Yeong-suk tenderly told Young-cheol, "I was moved watching the rain like falling eyes," creating a 'quadrangle' that also connected to Jeong-suk. In the 'final decision' scene Young-cheol confessed between Yeong-suk and Jeong-suk, "Someone has come into my life whom I want to shield from all of life's arrows," heightening curiosity for the next broadcast.
Finally, the three MCs Defconn, Lee Yi-kyung and Song Hae checked the wedding photos of the '29th marriage couple' released by production, and when Young-cheol was revealed as the groom Defconn exclaimed, "As expected, you are a man who gets it done!" Earlier Young-cheol had declared, "(After leaving 'Solonara') I can get married within three months." There is intense interest in who Young-cheol's wife will be, the person who made his wish come true.
The conclusion of the 29th group's romance saga, which produced the 'marriage couple,' will be revealed on Wednesday the 21st at 10:30 p.m. on ENA and SBS Plus on I'm SOLO.
