The recent condition of Resurrection's Kim Tae-won, who was in danger due to worsening health, was reported.
On the 14th episode of tvN STORY's "What do you leave behind," dog trainer Kang Hyung-wook, well known as a "look-alike," and Resurrection's Park Wan Kyu appeared as guests and talked.
That day the two tasted perilla kalguksu with Lee Young-ja and Pak Se-ri, and Kang Hyung-wook said, "If you eat this after the concert you'll feel satisfied." Lee Young-ja said, "Now stamina is lacking. You have to eat it," and Park Wan Kyu confessed, "After the performance everyone only looks at Tae-won hyung and says 'let's eat samgyeopsal.'"
Then Lee Young-ja said, "You have to go with this. Tae-won hyung now has to eat things like this," and Pak Se-ri also urged, "You have to eat things that are good for your body." Then Lee Young-ja said, "So when I asked who comes to mind when you eat something delicious, I thought it was Kim Tae-won hyung. Park Wan Kyu has often said things like 'Tae-won hyung is my benefactor. I will never forget him.' Why is it so poignant? Did he lend money, is he a lifesaver?" she asked, curious.
Park Wan Kyu recalled, "He is a lifesaver. In 1997, after singing a song called 'Lonely Night' with Resurrection, life was extremely hard. My son was born in 1997 and my daughter was born in 1998, but at that time the band hardly made any money. The annual salary was 2 million won. No matter what I did I couldn't even cover the children's milk powder, so I told hyung, 'Let's go to music that makes money,' but hyung then said, 'We can't decide that. If we say we'll make money, will money come?' Hyung was much more realistic than me. So I left the team."
After that Park Wan Kyu had a huge hit with "Love of a Thousand Years," but he revealed, "Because of a wrong agency and the practices and culture at the time I earned 100,000 won a month," shocking viewers. He said, "If I had been alone I might have accepted it. Then when problems arose with the agency it became harder to promote and I worked night jobs. After living like that for six or seven years my voice stopped coming out. I didn't manage it. Not feeling alive, I went to PC rooms and played games. There was nowhere to sing except Misari, so I went there to perform and eventually my voice completely stopped coming out," he confessed.
He continued, "After living like that for two years I decided I should quit being a singer and tried to, but Tae-won hyung called me then and told me to sing a song. There is a song called 'Secret.' At that time Tae-won hyung was soaring high, so by having me sing 'Secret' he made it possible for me to be a singer again. But when we recorded that song I wasn't in a condition to sing a single line. Isn't it said you record stitch by stitch?" he said, conveying his gratitude toward Kim Tae-won, who led him so he could continue singing.
Lee Young-ja joked, "When he left he left to make a living, didn't he? In a way isn't that a betrayal? He never saw vengeance. Many people left him. To put it plainly, many who were raised left. Starting with Park Wan Kyu," and admired, "But he doesn't seek revenge or refuse to see people."
Park Wan Kyu said, "It didn't make the news, but this time it was a bit dangerous. Tae-won hyung collapsed. This was the second time he collapsed this year. He collapsed the day before the memorial concert for the 11th anniversary of the late Shin Hae-chul and was barely moved to the emergency room and it worked out. So the next day he even did a stage greeting. A month and a half after that hyung collapsed again. Many things are not good. He himself said, 'I came back without crossing that river,' and he said, 'Welcome back, Wan Kyu, I'm sorry,' and every time I hear such things and see these foods I always think, 'He should eat things like this...,'" conveying his emotion.
Meanwhile, Kim Tae-won was once diagnosed with stomach cancer in the past and later recovered. In 2011 he underwent an endoscopy for an oncology special on KBS2's "Happy Sunday - Qualifications of Men" and was diagnosed with very early stomach cancer; after surgery he appeared on stage in good health and gave hope. However, afterward he suffered from sepsis in 2016 and experienced health problems including a relapse in 2019, receiving support from many music fans.
