The one-on-one brainy final match 'Death Game,' decided by a single weekly game, makes its debut.
Netflix's (Netflix) daily variety show 'Death Game,' directed by Kwon Dae-hyun and produced by TEO, which premieres at 5 p.m. on Wednesday the 28th, is a new-concept brain survival in which victory and defeat are decided by a single one-on-one game. Political maneuvering and alliances, long key entertainment elements in traditional brain survival shows, are boldly excluded, and the weekly one-on-one death matches deliver intense dopamine. 'Death Game' contestants participate in unpredictable brainy games encompassing strategy, betting, memorization and deduction, engaging in a single one-on-one death match. The winner receives a prize of 10 million won and advances to the next match to have the opportunity to accumulate prize money, while the loser is immediately eliminated. Only the brain is needed for victory. It raises curiosity about who will achieve five consecutive wins and become the final death game master.
An all-time lineup also draws expectations. Contestants who made their mark as competitors across various fields have joined. Lee Se-dol, the only human to have beaten AlphaGo and a legend of the go world; broadcaster and pro poker player Hong Jin-ho, a former pro gamer who was the inaugural winner of The Genius; Yuri-sa, a Mensa member with an IQ of 156 who appeared in the 'Blood Game' series; and SevenHigh, a pro poker player and music producer who showed a strong presence in The Devil's Plan, all foreshadow fierce one-on-one true contests.
Also joining to create an avengers-level lineup crossing fields are top travel YouTuber Ppanibottle, who transformed into a brain survival producer and ranks first in subscribers; Napoli Mafia (chef Kwon Seong-jun), winner of season 1 of Culinary Class Wars; actor Park Sung-woong, who has shown a strong presence in various works; and penguin character Pengsoo, who threw down the youngest challenge.
The first teaser released today (the 14th) raises expectations by showing the strong returns of top competitors. Alongside Lee Se-dol, who expressed strong confidence in one-on-one matches, viewers can see the composed Hong Jin-ho, Yuri-sa, SevenHigh and Ppanibottle in their confrontations and confirm their resolute determination to stake everything on a single game. Also, Pengsoo saying "I'm very confident," Napoli Mafia declaring "survival is my specialty," and Park Sung-woong leaving a chilling impression with a single line all boost anticipation for the unpredictable one-on-one contests as surprise challengers prepare to shake up the competition.
The presence of commentators, rarely seen in existing survival shows, further differentiates the program. Caster Park Sang-hyun, active in esports such as StarCraft and League of Legends (LOL), and commentator Jang Dong-min, called a living legend after winning multiple survival shows including The Genius and the 'Blood Game' series, will team up to add tense excitement. They are expected to analyze strategies and contests in fresh ways like sports commentary and convey the vivid atmosphere from the venue.
'Death Game' will release episodes 1 and 2 on Netflix at 5 p.m. on Wednesday the 28th. After that, one episode will be released sequentially every Wednesday at 5 p.m.<
