Actor Lee Si-young has launched a house renovation project to help housing-vulnerable families. After personally apologizing recently over a campground noise controversy, her quietly continued good deeds are receiving attention once again.
On the 14th, Lee Si-young posted a video of the "two house renovation project" on her YouTube channel "Ppushiyoung." Earlier, last September she donated 100 million won to the Korea Association for Single Mothers and Families and said it would be used to improve the living environments of housing-vulnerable households, including single-mother families.
In the video, Lee Si-young said, "We selected two houses to renovate," and explained, "It took four to five months just to choose the houses. Most were people suffering from serious illnesses, and when I actually visited, there were people whose housing environment desperately needed improvement."
She added, "At first I thought of decorating the children's rooms nicely, but because there were people who had difficulty moving, we changed direction," and "We had to tear up the floors and remove walls, so costs were high. Even using the donated 100 million won to carry out work on two houses was tight."
Lee Si-young said she selected as project recipients a home where a mother with epilepsy lives with her middle school son, and a three-generation household in which family members suffer from heart disease. In particular, the epilepsy patient had frequent seizures that damaged household items and left most of the windows broken, and the other household reportedly faced floor leaks and mold that made normal living difficult.
She said, "If my heart allowed, I would replace all the furniture and appliances. I am thinking about how to provide as much help as possible within the amount I donated," and added, "I believe this project is not simply fixing houses but giving someone the start of a new life, so I will devote myself sincerely."
She also drew attention by saying on social media, "I will take to heart the sharp rebukes and advice from many people and approach everything with a more mature and responsible attitude."
Earlier, Lee Si-young was embroiled in controversy after online community posts accusing her of causing a disturbance at a campground spread. She bowed her head on social media, saying, "I apologize for causing inconvenience," and stated, "I did not know the full situation on site, but because manners time is important, I apologize once again."
Meanwhile, after Lee Si-young announced her divorce last March after eight years of marriage, she was also embroiled in controversy when she said she became pregnant with her second child by having a frozen embryo implanted without her ex-husband's consent, and she gave birth to the second child last November. Since then she has continued quiet acts of charity, supporting and donating to single-parent families.
