"Dad and I season 3" saw Hyun Joo-yeop and Ahn Jung-hwan sit facing each other under the name "father" for a painful time of self-reflection.
On the 14th episode, the TV CHOSUN variety show "Dad and I season 3" revealed the story of the Hyun Joo-yeop father-son relationship, in which conversation had been cut off.
They met as members of the Universiade team during college and continued their relationship for more than 30 years. On that day, Hyun Joo-yeop opened up about family matters that had been too difficult to bring up in front of his longtime close friend Ahn Jung-hwan.
Hyun Joo-yeop began, "My eldest, Jun-hee, has recently taken a leave of absence," and complained about the difficulty of his father-son relationship, saying, "When I approach my son he pulls away, and when I try again he pulls away again." In response, Ahn Jung-hwan delivered a painful rebuke to his friend, saying, "Isn't it because of you that this happened?"
Ahn Jung-hwan went on to frankly confess and repent about his own parenting style. He revealed, "I raised my children like I treated juniors," admitting that he had applied the coercive, sports-club style of education in the past. Ahn Jung-hwan said, "Because I tried to raise them coercively, I became distant from my children," adding, "I still find (my children) difficult. Their world is so different from the world I knew," which drew viewers' attention.
