Hollywood actor Sean Penn was photographed smoking during the Golden Globe Awards in the United States, sparking controversy.
On the 12th (local time), according to U.S. outlets such as People, Sean Penn was photographed smoking unabashedly at the Golden Globe Awards held on the 11th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
At the time, Sean Penn attended as a nominee for his grants film "One Battle After Another" and was seen smoking indoors at a table where he sat with fellow actor Leonardo DiCaprio and others.
According to reports, Ben Fritz of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) posted a photo showing what appeared to be Sean Penn inhaling cigarette smoke. In the photo, Sean Penn is sitting at a table smoking a cigarette, and beside him Kate Hudson and Leonardo DiCaprio are talking. Fritz uploaded the photo to his social media account and added, "This has to be illegal."
Another outlet quoted a director who was at the venue during the ceremony saying, "Sean Penn just lit a cigarette at his table inside the theater," reporting that. Other attendees at the ceremony were looking for outdoor areas to smoke, so Penn's actions drew even more attention.
The photo was also posted on a social media account that shares indoor smoking scenes. The account posted the description, "Sean Penn smoking at the Golden Globes 'indoors'! An unbelievable thing is happening," and Hannah Einbinder of the drama "Hacks," who was also a nominee at this ceremony, commented on the post, "I saw it with my own eyes."
This is not the first time Sean Penn has smoked indoors during a TV broadcast. In 2018, when he appeared on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," he smoked two cigarettes back-to-back and was criticized on social media.
