Actress Oh Yeon-seo spoke frankly about the subject of Positively Yours.
On the afternoon of the 13th at The Link Seoul Hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul, a production presentation was held for Channel A's new Saturday-Sunday drama Positively Yours. Director Kim Jin-seong and actors Choi Jin-hyuk, Oh Yeon-seo, Hong Jong Hyun and Kim Dasom attended the presentation and discussed the show.
Positively Yours, based on a web novel of the same name, is a runaway romantic comedy about a one-night deviation between two men and women who had said there would be no marriage in this life.
However, the premarital pregnancy theme could not only provoke aversion given Korean sensibilities, but there is also concern that in an era when nonmarriage is trending because younger generations increasingly prioritize career over marriage or pregnancy, the subject might feel somewhat old-fashioned.
When asked about directorial or acting efforts to reduce such aversion, Oh Yeon-seo said frankly, "Because I ended up getting pregnant, many things happen. That part was difficult and burdensome for me while acting." Oh Yeon-seo plays Jang Hee-won, a career woman who is so in love with beer and romance that she proclaims there will be no marriage in this life, and she develops a runaway romance with Kang Doo-jun, played by Choi Jin-hyuk.
He said, "Among people in their 30s, unexpected unwanted pregnancies can happen. My character agonizes over that. Should I give up for my future, or should I chase my future more? I think those nuances are portrayed delicately. Actually, both Doo-jun (played by Choi Jin-hyuk) and Hee-won are nonmarriage proponents. Because the process of how the two meet, decide to marry, think about love and take responsibility for a child is solidly depicted, I think viewers will naturally understand when they watch the drama," he said.
Meanwhile, Positively Yours will premiere on the 17th at 10:30 p.m.
