Choi Kang-rok was again selected as the survival winner 13 years after 'MasterChef Korea 2'.
On the final episode of the Netflix variety show "Culinary Class Wars: Cooking Class War 2," released on the 13th, White Spoon Choi Kang-rok won the final victory by defeating Black Spoon Culinary Monster (Lee Ha-sung).
That day, Culinary Monster defeated White Spoon Hou Deok-juk to be selected as a finalist. Judges Paik Jong-won and Anh Sung-jae gave Culinary Monster slightly higher marks for creativity and chose him as the final finalist.
The final's theme was "the one dish only for me," and the point of this final was that chefs who always cooked for others had to make the best dish only for themselves. To that end, Culinary Monster made sundae-guk and Choi Kang-rok made sesame tofu soup to submit to the judges.
First, Culinary Monster reinterpreted the sundae-guk that held memories with his father from childhood in his own style and presented it to the judges. He said that after living away for a long time, the first food he eats when he returns to Korea is sundae-guk, and he added that for his future he hopes to "finish chapter one of working life and, while preparing chapter two, my restaurant, grow more and become a better chef."
Next, Choi Kang-rok, who presented his dish, prepared a soup dish with sesame tofu and told the judges, "but I made it my way." In response to Anh Sung-jae's question, "why did you want to give this dish to yourself?" he said, "I am a braising person. I once won a competition, and because I made a lot of braised dishes then, I got nicknames like braising person, serial braiser, braise king. I wasn't good at braising, but I pretended to be."
Choi Kang-rok said, "I actually studied a lot, and I worked hard, but there was a life I lived to pretend. I didn't want to braise even in a dish for myself," and added, "I wanted to give myself some comfort. I always scolded myself, and I have never even spent 90 seconds on a dish for myself. I wanted to try it in this virtual space."
Choi Kang-rok said that the only food he had made for himself so far was instant noodles. As something he wanted to say to himself, he said, "Good job, braising person. For today, rest from braising."
The two judges unanimously chose Choi Kang-rok's dish as the winning dish. The season 2 winner came from the White Spoon. Choi Kang-rok said in his remarks, "I am not someone who makes outstanding food; I am someone doing the same work as chefs who quietly work around the country. I will keep the words I received here in my heart, cherish the connections I made here, and live thinking more about food."
With this win, Choi Kang-rok became a cooking survival show winner again 13 years after the 2013 Olive variety show 'MasterChef Korea 2.' With his win on "Culinary Class Wars 2," Choi Kang-rok received a prize of 300 million won.
Meanwhile, Netflix's "Culinary Class Wars: Cooking Class War 2" is a program that depicts a fierce cooking class war between hidden masters Black Spoon chefs who try to overturn class by taste alone and Korea's top star chefs White Spoon who try to protect it.
