Singer-songwriter Ji Cheon opens the door to the 2026 new year with his new song Backlight.
Ji Cheon, who received critical and public acclaim throughout 2025 for each song he released with sophisticated melodies and solid messages, presents a deeper musical world through his new song "Backlight."
"Backlight" begins minimally with warm acoustic guitar and progresses into an acoustic full-band set with a gradual build-up, while serene yet rich string sounds firmly support the song's mood. Even within a restrained arrangement, the orchestration that does not lose the texture of emotion delivers a gentle yet profound resonance to listeners.
In particular, "Backlight" is a meaningful work that Ji Cheon worked on about three years ago when he decided to pursue music in earnest, containing a message he has nurtured for a long time. Like the image of "backlight," where sun and shadow coexist, it sings the will to move toward brightness even though one has not yet fully faced the light. The song as a whole is infused with a message of hope for those who are quietly walking toward that direction, not those who already stand in a brilliant place.
Last year, Ji Cheon established himself as a noteworthy emerging singer-songwriter in the music scene by consecutively releasing 'I'm Ready', 'Fallin'', and 'Fresh Love', landing on various music charts and YouTube playlists. Released amid this momentum, "Backlight" is expected to become a song that more clearly shows Ji Cheon's musical identity and future direction.
"Backlight" was selected as Ruby Record's "Label Pick" and will be released on major domestic and international music sites starting at noon on Jan. 13. In addition, Ji Cheon will hold a concert at Ruby Salon on Jan. 17 to commemorate the new song's release and will embark on full-scale activities opening 2026.
