Past squander of 150 million won on nightlife, and now it has come to "let's get a divorce." The wildly different daily lives of former player Jeon Tae-poong and his wife were revealed on "Same Bed, Different Dreams."
On the 12th episode of the SBS variety show Same Bed, Different Dreams season 2 — You Are My Destiny, the stark contrast between newly joined former professional basketball player Jeon Tae-poong and his wife Ji Mina was exposed.
The couple, married 17 years, are the parents of three children. Throughout the broadcast Jeon Tae-poong showed the traits of a "dotting husband," looking only at his wife, and the two also revealed that they share the commonality of being born to a Korean parent and an American parent.
But their daily lives were completely different. Ji Mina graduated from the prestigious UC Berkeley and completed graduate studies in Florida; she is an elite prodigy who revealed a background of working in Korea as an English instructor, guiding students in TOEFL·SAT·college admission interviews. She showed the epitome of a "model wife," studying Korean and taking responsibility 24 hours a day for raising the three children.
By contrast, Jeon Tae-poong described himself as a "delinquent" and opened up about his past. He confessed that he spent the entire 150 million won signing bonus he received when he debuted in professional basketball in just two months. He said, "I bought a car to pick up women," purchasing a luxury SUV with cash and no loan, and at clubs he spent extravagantly, even paying for his friends' drinks. Jeon Tae-poong recalled, "It was a completely stupid time," and said, "After spending all the money I couldn't go out for two weeks. I had no money to buy gas and survived on hamburgers," shocking viewers.
He said, "If I hadn't met my wife I don't know what would have happened to my life. I might have gone to prison," and added, "Meeting Ji Mina calmed me down, and we married after one year of dating." Thus the two became a family with three children after 17 years of marriage.
But the current reality revealed another contrast. Childcare and household chores were mostly the wife's responsibility. While Jeon Tae-poong slept, Ji Mina would get up at dawn to prepare the children's meals and send them to school in her pajamas on an empty stomach. Even after driving for as long as two hours and returning home, the day continued. Having never done morning childcare even once, Jeon Tae-poong worried his wife, and Ji Mina calmly explained the reason she ended up taking everything on herself, saying, "I tried leaving the housework to my husband, but it was actually more difficult." In addition, footage showed Jeon Tae-poong smoking inside the house.
Amid this, Jeon Tae-poong also revealed a new worry. He said, "I love my wife so much that I want physical affection and to play together, but I can't control it. I like it so much," but his wife's reaction was the exact opposite. Ji Mina said, "I don't think we suit each other," and ultimately even voiced, "let's get a divorce," shocking viewers. Regarding this, Jeon Tae-poong said, "On a night I drank and came home late, my wife's emotions exploded and I said useless things," and showed regret, saying, "Those were words said in anger."
Despite completely different temperaments and extreme contrasts, the Jeon Tae-poong and Ji Mina couple have been together for 17 years. "Same Bed, Different Dreams" left a deep impression by candidly showing the bare faces of those torn between love and reality.
