Movie Avatar: Fire and Ash (Avatar 3, original title: Avatar: Fire and Ash, director: James Cameron, import/distribution: Walt Disney Company Korea) has surpassed 6 million domestic viewers over the weekend amid an unstoppable box office run, and not only ranked No. 1 at the North American weekend box office for four consecutive weeks but also set a milestone by surpassing $1.2 billion in worldwide box office revenue.
Avatar: Fire and Ash ranked No. 1 at the overall North American box office for the three-day weekend from Jan. 9 (Fri.) to Jan. 11 (Sun.), securing the weekend box office top spot for four consecutive weeks. At the same time, it surpassed $1.23059 billion in global box office revenue (about Hanwha 1.7965 trillion won), demonstrating the enduring strength of the series. Domestically, it attracted 316,262 viewers on its fourth weekend after release, pushing cumulative attendance past 6 million and showing that the enthusiasm remains strong.
Also, according to CGV, as of the second week after release, Avatar: Fire and Ash recorded $10 million at the SCREENX global box office, about 1.5 times that of the previous film, and 4DX totaled $30 million, exceeding the previous film's performance. In particular, combined auditoriums featuring both SCREENX and 4DX recorded $1.25 million, about twice that of the previous film, indicating that preference for technology-specialized screens has increased with each installment of the series.
With this unwaning momentum driving long-term global box office success, Avatar: Fire and Ash is sailing toward 7 million viewers in its fifth week after release.
Capturing theaters with overwhelming box office power, Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third installment of the globally successful Avatar series, which drew 13.62 million domestic viewers. The story depicts a larger crisis unfolding on a Pandora covered in fire and ash after the death of Jake and Neytiri's first son, Netei-yam, when the ash tribe led by Barang appears before the grieving Sully family.
