'Extreme 84' Kian84 finally entered the Arctic, marveling at the overwhelming scale.
In the seventh episode of MBC variety show 'Extreme 84' broadcast on the 11th, the extreme crew Kian84, Kwon Hwa Woon and Kangnam finally entered the Arctic and set out to explore the RUSSELL glacier.
That day the extreme crew expressed concern after hearing about various terrain courses, including the glacier course, at the Denmark expo. And finally they faced the unknown land, the Arctic. Kangnam said, "It's really pretty," and marveled, "There's nothing dirty in the air." In response, Kian84, who was inhaling the air, said, "The air smells like very clear sake. It's a bit different."
In the studio, Kwak Beom asked, "Is it very different from Seoul air?" Kian84 replied, "They say the air is good. Arctic air feels different when you breathe it. When the air is clear, you feel it like this."
The extreme crew took a bus with the participants and arrived at the lodging where they would stay for three nights and four days and unpacked. Unlike the younger members who share a room, Kian84, who had a room to himself, lamented, "The air itself there has a lonely quality. There are so few people."
Recalling the past in the modest-sized room, Kwon Hwa Woon said, "When I passed the university and came to Seoul, I lived in a goshiwon for six months. It was smaller than this. It was a goshiwon but you had to go out by going around the rooftop room." In response to "That must have been hard," Kwon Hwa Woon said, "It wasn't hard. I was grateful to live in Seoul," and Kian84 looked at Kwon Hwa Woon with admiration.
At that time, runners gathered one by one at the host's call. Kian84 explained to the panelists, "From here on it's group activity, so if someone says they're going somewhere, everyone has to go together."
The first schedule in the Arctic was the RUSSELL glacier exploration. The organizers said they would show the RUSSELL glacier encountered at the 15km point before the race. Before moving, the extreme crew relaxed by kissing reindeer bones in turn after hearing that kissing a reindeer's head brings good luck.
The bus carrying the extreme crew began moving along the marathon course, and Kwon Hwa Woon analyzed the course along the way. During the move, the extreme crew also encountered muskoxen and reindeer that live in the Arctic.
The guide also introduced a military jet that crashed in 1968. It was an accident caused by a severe blizzard at the time; fortunately, the pilots escaped without casualties, and the site has become a hiking attraction. Kangnam said, "I'm flying the day after tomorrow, do we have to show this? I'm scared to death. Let's just pass by," while Kian84 expressed satisfaction, "This is the place I like best among the places I've been to so far."
After getting off somewhere, the extreme crew climbed uphill according to the hosts' guidance. From the entrance they struggled walking on the thinly frozen ground. After winding along the ridgeline, the three finally faced the long-awaited RUSSELL glacier.
In particular, Kian84, who had doubted, "I don't think there will be a glacier," marveled, "Wow, what are we going to do?" Unable to take in the grandeur at a glance, Kian84 kept uttering exclamations and said, "I wonder how old it is," unable to take his eyes off it. Kangnam also exclaimed, "It's enormous."
As if it made the arrival in the Arctic feel real, Kian84 said, "When I think that it's almost as covered in ice as American land, it's like this huge ice cap is flipped over like a hat on the earth. I really feel overwhelmed and it feels majestic."
