As the one-year anniversary of their public relationship approaches, singer and actress IU and actor Lee Jong-suk's alleged couple looks became a hot topic, and IU herself offered an explanation.
Recently, photos and videos were shared on online communities showing the two wearing a zip-up hoodie from luxury brand Balenciaga priced at around 3 million won each. Although the scenes were taken at different locations, the similar design and color naturally led to speculation of a "couple look".
IU's appearance was revealed on April 5 through actor Lee Yeon's social media. In the photo, IU drew attention with a comfortable everyday look, pairing a bucket hat with a zip-up hoodie. Lee Jong-suk's whereabouts were shared on April 8 through actor Ryu Hyeyoung's YouTube channel. The video contained footage of a year-ago wrap-up gathering of the tvN drama Law and The City team, and because the zip-up hoodie Lee Jong-suk wore looked similar to IU's outfit, the couple-look speculation spread further.
When a fan shared the related photos on IU's communication app expressing regret, IU dismissed the speculation with a brief comment, "They're different clothes..?" Fans reacted to the frank and sincere clarification with comments such as "a response true to IU" and "makes me like her even more."
Internet users also left supportive comments such as "They're a couple with nothing to hide so it's better that they're honest," "Even if they look similar, once it's explained that's the end of it," "I think people overinterpreted it because they were excited," and "It's nicer to see them quietly getting along," showing their support for the two.
IU and Lee Jong-suk officially acknowledged their relationship in December 2022 and have been quietly seeing each other while minimizing exposure of their private lives.
