'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' issued an official position regarding being booked on charges of copyright infringement.
On the 12th, KBS N told OSEN, "'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' is an externally produced program, and we became aware of the dispute through the production company 'Mystic Story,'" adding, "Afterward, KBS N has been continuously receiving updates on the matter from the production company, and we understand that specific responses to the matter are currently being handled by the production company."
It added, "However, because this matter is currently under police investigation, it is difficult to make additional statements on individual cases. If relevant agencies request it in the future, KBS N will sincerely cooperate with the investigation."
According to a report by one media outlet that day, the Gyeonggi Bundang police station is currently investigating the production company Mystic Story of 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller,' broadcaster KBS N and other CEOs on charges of violating the Copyright Act. The issue concerns the opening music used from February 2019 to February last year for about six years: some parts of the OST "Garanggaraeng" from The Goddess of Fire Jung-yi were used exactly as the recording, and are accused of being reworked by splicing them with entirely different recordings without the original author's consent.
The original author, a person surnamed Lee, is known to have first raised the issue with the production company and broadcaster in February last year, and afterward the Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller side replaced the opening music and continued broadcasting, but the problematic opening music still remains on OTT and other catch-up services.
