Broadcaster Park Na-rae is still at the center of a "power abuse controversy." The silence, rather than additional explanations or immediate denials, is changing the course because of that. However, it is still unknown whether that silence can cover all suspicions.
The turning point of the controversy was a recently released currency transcript. In the early morning of the 8th of last month, part of a currency between Park Na-rae and former manager A was released through a YouTube channel. The time was around 1:40 a.m. The tone of the conversation in the transcript was different from the previously raised "power abuser-victim" framework.
A said, "I don't know why it got to this point," and "I didn't want it to come to this," pouring out emotions, and Park Na-rae also choked up and could not continue speaking together. The focus of the conversation was not a battle over responsibility but on worrying about each other's condition. Mentioning their pet dog and family well-being, health and lifestyle habits revealed the density of the relationship between the two. In particular, A's remark "unnie is my love" left a different impression from the previously raised claims.
After this conversation, Park Na-rae posted on social media that she "resolved misunderstandings with her former managers" and announced a suspension of activities. However, that afternoon the situation changed. A's side changed its position, saying, "There was no substantive apology or agreement," and continued raising issues through broadcasts and interviews. Within just a few hours, the emotions of the early morning and the judgment of the daytime led to completely different choices.
At this point, Park Na-rae's response is again getting attention. Rather than issuing an additional statement afterward, she chose silence following a "final statement." In the meantime, gaps between the former manager's claims and the contents of the transcript, and conflicting explanations over salary·career·four major social insurance handling methods have been revealed one by one, and public opinion is no longer flowing in a single direction as before.
However, silence does not mean an immediate acquittal. Separate from the power abuse controversy, the alleged illegal procedures and proxy prescription suspicions are at the investigation stage. The police have announced they will investigate related parties over allegations including unlicensed medical practice, and Park Na-rae is also expected to be questioned soon.
Currently, the former manager's side is pursuing criminal charges and civil damages claims, and Park Na-rae's side has filed a countersuit on charges including attempted blackmail. The conflict has already moved from the realm of emotion into the realm of law. Apart from friendship or emotional issues, legal judgment is expected to be made according to the facts.
The recently released transcript partly helped lower the temperature of public opinion. However, it cannot replace the conclusion of the case. Whether Park Na-rae's silence was "The Divine Move" or merely a choice to postpone judgment will be answered by the results of future investigations.
