Kim Young-im opened up about her difficult married life.
The Oct. 10 broadcast of MBN 'Sokpulisyo Dongchimi' (hereinafter Dongchimi) discussed the theme "Getting angry leads to ruin."
Kim Young-im said, "(Lee Sang-hae) was the eldest son, so he had to take care of all the household matters. He even had to dress the i-dle's clothes in luxury brands. When I went to my parents' house and told them, they said, 'I told you not to get married.' Even when my husband and I fought, I couldn't go to my parents'. I had to endure everything. It piled up inside me so much," she said.
Kim Young-im added, "It started to erupt when I was 50. I was touring local performances and I couldn't sleep. Then I started refusing food. I dropped to 40kg. It fell off in a few months. I couldn't sing so I couldn't perform. I dozed off and began to see things," she added.
Kim Young-im explained, "When I went to the hospital, the doctor understood me better than my husband. I got medicine. My husband suggested he go to the U.S. for a short visit. The i-dle were studying there, so we went to the U.S. A reporter came at the time. There were rumors that 'she went to recuperate because she had a bad illness,'" she explained.
Kim Young-im recounted the situation, "My mother-in-law had briefly come to the U.S., and she did what my son told her not to do. She was angry at me for being angry at her son. I was in very poor health and asked, 'Why are you taking out your anger on me?' My husband heard that and it became a huge problem."
Kim Young-im said, "My son heard a noise while going to school, felt something was wrong and came, and my husband raised his hand impulsively. My son grabbed his hand and said, 'Mom did nothing wrong. Mom is sick right now.' A report was filed and the police came. For the first time I packed my things and left. I had nowhere to go. My son took me to a hotel. Two days later my son arranged a time for me to meet my husband. He said, 'Can't you just say sorry, Dad?' At that time our son was a high school student," she said, expressing pride in her son's deep feelings.
Kim Young-im became emotional, saying, "In the end my husband never told me he was wrong. Even though I had done nothing wrong, as a daughter-in-law I went in and said, 'Mother, I was wrong.'"
Kim Young-im said, "My son has been married for five years. To my daughter-in-law she says, 'You are a woman, and so am I.' I don't want to scold her at all. I don't want to treat anyone the same. Because she is our daughter-in-law," she said, expressing her fondness for Kim Yoon-ji, who married her son.
