Actor Oh Man-seok calmly looked back on the time he lived as a single dad and his life after remarrying.
On the 10th broadcast of MBN 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night', Song Seung-hwan and Oh Man-seok, the leads of the play 'The Dresser', appeared and talked about their lives. That day Oh Man-seok spoke honestly about marriage and divorce, and the long period of living as a single dad leading up to forming a family again.
Oh Man-seok said he married in 2001 but divorced after six years, then raised his daughter alone and lived as a single dad for more than 10 years. Looking back, he said, "Rather than me having been having a hard time, I think the child must have suffered more." He said the times when the absence of family was felt most keenly, such as on holidays, weighed on his mind the most.
He confessed, "I deliberately took her to amusement parks and tried to make the time outside as fun as possible," and "But when we returned home, there were moments when the child's expression changed completely the moment we got off the elevator and entered the front door. Every time I felt that sulkiness, I felt a great deal of remorse." He added, "Those moments were not just once or twice," conveying both responsibility and guilt as a single dad.
He naturally explained the process that led to his remarriage in 2018. Oh Man-seok said, "She was one of the musical juniors I had known," and "Rather than a special trigger, everything flowed naturally." He added, "I am satisfied with and enjoying my life within the given conditions," conveying his current happiness. After remarrying, he had a second daughter and once again completed the shape of his family.
In response, Song Seung-hwan mentioned Oh Man-seok's love for his family, saying, "I have never seen anyone who lavishes such care on not only his wife and child but also his in-laws." He added that he was deeply impressed to see him invite his in-laws to spend time together even during performance schedules.
That day the broadcast also briefly mentioned memories of the late Lee Soon-jae. Oh Man-seok recalled, "I worked with him in the production where I first took the lead role," and "Even after his parts were over, he was someone who watched the performances of his juniors until the end." He conveyed his respect and longing, saying, "I still vividly remember him specifically calling me to stand with him in a play he directed himself."
